A must see when in Eastern Cape. Full of history and beautiful views! Climb up to the top of the lighthouseto see how it was done 100’s of years ago. Beautifully preserved.

The Donkin Reserve is one of the best known historical attractions in PE, telling a fascinating stroy of the discovery & discovery of the Friendly City. Park with harbour views, featuring a stone pyramid & 1860's lighthouse, mosaic & sculptures LGBTQI+ friendly. 9min drive (5km away from Hidden gem in Walmer)

Please arrange a Tour of the historic side of Central and Port Elizabeth, or ask the Guest House to organise a local buddy to take you around the historic part of Port elizabeth. We do not recommend solar travelers doing this on their own, as this area is not deemed completely safe. The Donkin Reserve, located off Belmont Terrace, Central, and overlooking the city, was proclaimed an open space in perpetuity by Sir Rufane Donkin. The Donkin Reserve, Pyramid and Lighthouse includes a Stone Pyramid Monument with a touching inscription erected by Sir Rufane Donkin in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth, after whom the city was namknown ed, as well as palm-lined walkways and benches. The Pyramid is approximately 10 meters high and the sides at the base measure about 8 meters each. The Lighthouse, which was built in 1861, also houses Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, the official Tourist Information Centre. The Lighthouse is open to the public on request between 08h00 & 16h30 weekdays and Saturdays 09H30-15H30. Please report to the Tourism Office for access.
