The Lake Jackson Historical Society holds tours at this site on the first Saturday of each month. That's the only day it is open. But, it is worth a visit if you are in the area on that day. You can see the outlines of a number of plantation buildings from Abner Jackson's sugar plantation, as well as more extensive ruins from the sugar mill. Hurricanes and the ravages of time destroyed most of it, but with what archaeologists have unearthed, you can get a sense of the magnitude of the site. Stop and reflect on the hundreds of slaves that were required to build and work the site, and you can appreciate that while this is interesting and important history, America is better today than it was in those "grand old days".
