Little mountain town nestled amidst tall trees and rocks and less than an hour away. Artsy and outdoorsy, it's a charming sanctuary of slow speed hiking, shopping, and cute restaurants.

Idyllwild is the quintessential alpine hamlet and lies about 23 miles northwest of Skyview. The drive up there is beautiful and will take you through the Garner Ranch. This ranch doubled for the "Ponderosa" on the Bonanza TV series in the late 1950's. It can be seen in the opening credits of each episode. Idyllwild itself was modeled on a Tyrolean mountain village in the 1930's and 40's. Today, it's a time capsule of another time and place. It's home to many fine restaurants and quaint shops. If hiking is your thing, you're in luck. There are several great trailheads in an around Idyllwild, including part of the Pacific Crest trail.
