Sant' Appiano Parish Church is located in the municipality of Barberino-Tarvarnelle. It is the only building in the Florentine countryside that preserves the remains of an independent baptistery with respect to the church. The parish church in 990 became part of the possessions of the Bishop of Florence but its origin is much older as can be deduced from the interior proto-Romanesque characters. The undoubtedly most interesting piece is a pagan Idoletto (Eros riding a dog), in stone, datable to the 2nd century AD, although not all scholars agree. There are also numerous Etruscan urns. Among the paintings are the triptych depicting the Madonna and Child with the Saints John the Baptist and Girolamo della Marca by the Master of Signa and a series of paintings, the most important of which is the one depicting the saints Sebastiano, Girolamo and Rocco from the school del Pollaiuolo.
