This dramatic landscape developed when a shingle bank formed across the entrance to the Cober river, creating a lagoon and transforming the port of Helston into an inland town. You can walk to Loe Bar from Helston along an easy , mostly surfaced track. Park in the car park next to Flora Motors and if you need refreshments at the start or end of your walk there’s a cafe in the park, by the boating lakes.

Beautiful and accessible for all. If you fancied a bit of a day out, you can either walk or cycle down the track that starts at the ‘Fairground Car Park’ and ends at Loe Bar.

A circular walk around the Loe Pool and along Loe Bar. The Loe also known as Loe Pool is the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall - not suitable for swimming in tho. Managed by the National Trust. Distance is 6.2 miles- OS Explorer 103 - Easy to moderate The lake can be accessed several ways, some start at the Stables Cafe, beside a wonderful walled garden close to the historic Penrose House.

Loe Bar is a beautiful beach and pool but do not swim here, however tempting it looks and however calm. It is never lifeguarded and it is not safe - even in good weather the currents are treacherous. In bad weather it is truly lethal. It is not even safe for dogs to swim here at any time. Enjoy the view, then go inland and walk around the lake!
