  • We really loved our stay! Steve is a brilliant host and recommended great places to eat and drink, all a stones throw away. We stayed with our new born baby and were made to feel very welcome. The lodge is small but perfectly formed. Couldn't have asked for anything more.

  • We only stayed one night in the Brew house and thoroughly enjoyed it. Steve was so welcoming from the moment he opened the front door. We sat reading in the garden on the amazing swing seat before enjoying a meal at Le Mistral. The Brew house is tiny but has everything you need for a stop over. We lay in bed listening to Simon and Garfunkel amongst others on the record player. The stairs up to the bed platform are more like a ladder and would not suit everyone. There was tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and chocolates also lovely toiletries provided. Thanks Steve and Sue.

  • We booked The Brew House as a little one-night, post-Christmas getaway, and it didn't disappoint. Steve's beautiful Georgian house and fascinating garden (inhabited by a mysterious giant ape) were a lovely setting in which to find our little abode for the evening. Perfectly proportioned and well-designed, The Brew House had everything we could need for a short stay, and was genuinely cosy (cosy as in cosy, not a euphemism for cramped!). After slipping out of the courtyard through an old door in a wall (we felt a bit like we were in Harry Potter) we had a fun evening in pretty Wirksworth. On Steve's recommendation we'd tried to get a table at the Le Mistral across the road, which looked lovely, but we'd left it a bit late unfortunately. Really hope we get to come back at some point - it was all over too quickly! Lovely accommodation and great host.

  • Steve & Sue made us feel very welcome at The Brew House which is a gorgeous little place that we hope to visit again soon.

  • Great little hidey hole in the grounds of an incredible house. Brilliant comms and welcome from hosts on arrival and throughout our stay. Loved it.

  • The Brew House is a lovely and cute place to enjoy a weekend excursion. It is located in the heart of Wirksworth, so you can find everything in walking distance. The town itself was really nice to explore and Steve and Sue were great giving useful advice about places where to eat, have a drink or worth visiting. It is highly recommended!

  • A lovely time away.. accomadation in great location and the place had been finished to a very high standard. Lovely hosts who couldn't be more helpful!

    Donovan2018-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay and felt very welcomed. Steve was always available if we needed him, and the place was beautifully decorated and very cosy. The location is central in the town, but still very peaceful. Restaurants are literally a stone's throw away, and the town itself is very arty. Definitely recommend, we'll be back!

  • The Wash House is a perfect little escape. The quirky property and stunning private gardens are such a unique little secret spot in the middle of an interesting little Village.

    Holly2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Wash House is a beautiful Accommodation both inside and out, the stay has a tonne of little extra's that make the experience so enjoyable as a couple, Steve has a very warm welcome giving recommendations of what to do and where to eat with an additional little tour of the gardens and wash house. The use of Steve & Sue's garden is a massive bonus as it is a beautiful garden with plenty of seating and even a moon swing big enough for two. The Wash house is in a great location within the town, with plenty of amenities adjacent the accommodation including a very handy pharmacy with a wide variety of items for just in case you've forgotten something essential.

    Ben2018-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Charming little apartment set just behind the historic town house belonging to the host. Steve made us both feel very welcome, was very accommodating, provided great advice on local places to visit, and was flexible about my quite late arrival timing. The Wash House itself was just what we needed, small and compact, but very cosy and a perfect location for visiting the peak district, and long walks in the hills. Highly recommended!

    Jens2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was an excellent host and immediately filled us in on Wirksworth – we followed his great recommendations and went to Le Mistral and the Black's Head, and we'd go back again too. The Wash House is very cosy and a real Secret Garden gem.

    Steve2016-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant weekend at the wash house. It's a fantastic location right in the centre of Wirksworth, just a minute's walk from some great restaurants. We loved Le Mistral and Gino's (where the food was great even if the service was a little unusual!) and Mercia does a great brunch. We were lucky to have come to Wirksworth during the arts festival and caught some incredible late night jazz in the town hall. For a cute little town Wirksworth has a lot going on! The local scenery is stunning and we enjoyed a circular walk from Wirksworth to Black Rocks. Steve was a perfect host, extremely welcoming and full of advice about where to go and what to do. We felt completely at home. The wash house is full of character, a beautiful place for a cosy, romantic weekend - not a lot of space but very cute! The chocolates and amaretti biscuits were a lovely addition. I believe we were the first to use the new summer house which was a delightful place to spend a quiet afternoon reading. Wirksworth is charming and I would thoroughly recommend Steve and Sue's Wash House as a place to stay.

    Eilidh2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for providing a great place to stay!

    Suzanne2016-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most cosy and happy stay at The Wash House. Sue and Steve were so lovely and welcoming, giving us brilliant tips for a wonderful stay and making us feel completely at home. We can't recommend this cosy hideaway enough. The space is perfectly put together with everything you need to unwind for a few days. With such a beautiful setting (and a hidden record collection!) we were so happy spending mornings and evenings in this enchanting place. Thank you so much for having us!

    Maisie2017-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great stay, Steve and Sue were so welcoming and helpful. The wash house was decorated fantastically and very clean. Had everything we needed! Really great location, so close to Wirskworth. Would definitely recommend!

  • We have just spent three nights at this beautiful cottage in Cromford: a well-equipped, comfortable, clean home in the centre of a UNESCO world heritage area along the River Derwent. Lots to do and see in this charming area - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

    Anne2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lindas cottage is beautiful, really cosy and so clean :) we loved playing the board games in the cupboard! Linda was really easy to contact before and throughout our stay. Only problem was setting off the smoke alarm very easily! Cromford is a very quaint and pretty village.

    Sarah2015-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at Linda's cottage for a very chilled couple of days. The cottage is in a small town on a quiet road. We found the beds to be super comfy and enjoyed having the log fire going in the evening (even if it was supposed to be Summer!). The lounge area is comfy and although the kitchen is small there was enough space to use the cottage as a base to explore the Peaks as well as to rest and relax. Everything was as described and Linda replied promptly to all my messages and was very friendly and helpful.

    Mike2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, comfy cottage in a gorgeous village - don't miss Biddy's Tea Rooms and the Mill. Excellent showers, cosy blankets and a great wee woodfire stove. Did exactly what it said on the tin. Thank you Linda PS Very regular trains from Derby - seriously easy to get to without a car, and Waitrose Buxton delivers

    Deborah2015-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location to stay, good selection of local shops and restaurants, plenty of room for a family of 4, the cottage was warm and cosy although parking was limited we never had any issues.

    Lillo2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful quaint cottage in a lovely quiet location. We are a family of four but there was an extra bedroom we didn't use, so another person could comfortably stay. Lovely master with en-suite, nice sized bedrooms. Lounge and dining room worked well. Kitchen is small but had everything we needed and thanks to Linda, basic needs like tea, soap, wash powder etc. we're already there. The directions to the property and how to gain access were very clear. Parking can be tricky sometimes, you just have to be patient and drive around a little. Everyone was very friendly in the area. Lots of beautiful scenery and walks all around. Wonderful bookstore on the street, if you like to read. Great place!

  • What a lovely little place with great views. It was slightly difficult to find at night (due to lack of lighting) we followed the pin on the map provided but it wasn’t quite accurate. Contacted Penny and she was great at directing us and guiding us to the gate at the speed sign after the fuel cafe (a nice little place minutes away) the place itself was very well kept and cosy. There are cooking facilities which are handy and would love to visit again. Thanks!

Came as a family of three with our grown up daughter for a few days in order to explore the area. Wirksworth is close to Matlock Bath and other attractions. There is no on-site parking but a residence permit is provided for the Market Square between 4.00pm and 11.00am which is a two minute walk from the property. A pleasant surprise was the provision of a voucher for a free drink in the next door pub!

    Sarah2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous stay, cosy cottage in a great location, Wirksworth is a super little town, we went first weekend of month where they had a farmers market, really enjoyed the area & a delightful home. Feather Star in front of cottage is the best pub ever, we loved it. Parking is restricted so suss it out before you arrive. We look forward to our next stay in 2019

  • Pauls place is accurately describe on Airbnb. We had a great stay, Paul was responsive to any request. I'd have no hesitation in recommending the cottage

    Paul2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • The property was as gorgeous as the photos. Very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and a useful manual that covered everything you needed to know about the house. Paul kept in touch and provided useful information prior to arrival, and welcomed us in person shortly after we arrived.

    Jane2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay; loved Wirkswoth and this house, just off the main street and next to the Church, was a great find. Paul was very helpful and responded quickly to all enquiries. I'd have no hesitation staying again and happily highly recommend to others.

  • Angel Forge is the perfect place to stay and enjoy the surrounding area. The cottage is a home from home with every thing you need for a perfect stay. Its location is as central in Wirksworth as you can get with Restaurants, shops and takeaways all within easy reach. Parking is no problem with the provided pass (tests your hill start abilities if you park in the market square. The cottage has a private courtyard with chairs for sitting around on the perfect summer evenings we experienced this week. Trams, trains, caves and dales are all within half hour drive. Brilliant stay could not fault it.

Cliff Cottage is a cosy piece of history in the heart of the Derwent valley world heritage village of Cromford. Set right in the heart of the Derbyshire dales and on the edge of the Peak District this is the ideal base for exploring both areas. The cottage is great for couples or small groups of friends looking to walk, explore or just relax in this beautiful part of England. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, shower room, lounge diner, Kitchen and terrace garden.
Built in the late 18th Century to house workers of the worlds very first factory you can expect to find a unique mix of original features and modern amenities in Cliff Cottage. From the cobbled pavement the property is entered into the cosy beamed living space which now has the modern amenities of comfortable furniture and dining furniture for four. Fireplace with electric wood burner, Flat screen television with chrome cast to access Netflix, iplayer and youtube and of course a selection of games and playing cards. The compact kitchen is modern and well equipped with fridge freezer, hob, oven, integrated washing machine/tumble dryer and dishwasher along with kettle, toaster and coffee machine. From the back door there is access to a steep terrace garden that offers views across Cromford Moors from several levels. There is seating for four people. Please be aware due to the age of the property the garden terrace is somewhat uneven so it is best to be cautious before and after alcohol! On the first floor there is a large double bedroom overlooking the mill pond that has a double bed, shelving with a selection of books, wardrobe, drawers, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and clothes horse. The wood burning stove in the bedroom is for decorative use only. On the top floor there is a modern shower room that has been fully refurbished to a high standard. Towels and bathmat are provided along with hand soap. The second bedroom is on the top floor next to the bathroom. There is a small wardrobe, full length mirror, chest of drawers and double bed.
Cromford is a unique and quirky village on the edge of Matlock Bath that is of international importance due to the part it played in the industrial revolution. Along with amazing countryside and a Victorian Spa town on it's door step, not to mention it's proximity to the Peak district it is a truly special area of Derbyshire. Whether you want to immerse yourself in history, cycle for miles, walk for days, sample the local beers or just hide away for a weekend you can do as much or as little as you like. It's all on the doorstep. Should you wish to abandon the car the village has a local shop that has convenience items and an off license. This is the only source of cash in the village in the form of cash back. A butchers, deli and cafe, chocolate shop, several pubs, cafe, post office, cheese shop and book shop. not to mention an art gallery and antique centre at the mill.
  • A lovely, beautifully furnished cottage in a great location for exploring the Peak District. Decorated and fitted to a high standard, a perfect place for a few days away.

  • Beautiful house! In a great location. Lots to do in the area and very easy to explore the Peak District from.

  • We absolutely loved Lucy's cosy cottage in Cromford. It is a beautiful home with everything we needed. Lucy was a wonderful host, easy to communicate with and very friendly. Her home was clean and very comfortable. We loved all the decorations and the feel of her home. We would definitely stay here again and recommend Lucy's Cosy Cottage to anyone visiting the area. The stairs are steep but we found that the winding staircase and three levels added to the charm of the house. If you are looking for a quiet location close to the peak district and a quaint little village to explore this is the place for you. Thanks, Lucy.

  • Fantastic cosy spotless home really really good experience! Decor and furnishings top spec. Great bathroom and kitchen spotlessly clean and well equipped. Efficient hot central heating and hot shower and fluffy towels. Location good we took two walks straight from the front door. 30 min (max) drive to Chatsford well worth a visit! 40 minsdrive to Edale incredible walking, take coins for the pay and display! We are at The Boat 2 min walk cosy welcoming great food very reasonable. We also ate at the Market Place 2 steaks and a bottle of wine £30 rib eye was the best I’ve ever had. But... best of all drive to Stannage Edge for the most breathtaking Peak views 6 miles (out and back) along the ridge suitable for families and includes the rocks where Elizabeth Bennett (Keira Knightley)stands in the opening credits of Pride and prejudice... it’s quite breathtaking even on a dullish October day!

  • Excellent place to stay at. Very cozy and convenient. Very clean and welcoming.

    Eric2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • A good central location to explore area. Host communicates excellently before stay and throughout, answered all questions we had

    Ria2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well equipped comfortable spotlessly clean cottage. Stairs are very steep and care is needed. Interesting pretty village with a lovely pub only 5 mins walk which serves great food. Take care as my sat nav took me straight past the cottage and along some very narrow steep roads so check a map before you go!

    Deborah2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really beautiful, even prettier than the photos show, everything you need. The stairs are steep, inside and in the garden but you just need to take care - no problem for us. Cromford is a delight, especially when it becomes quieter. Don't miss Scarthin Books and the canal and the Boat Inn for a real local feel. Lovely weekend.

World Heritage cottage in bustling Cromford Our house in North Street is a beautifully presented grade two listed terraced cottage set in a peaceful location in the historic village of Cromford. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, a modern bathroom, lounge with log burner and a dining kitchen.
North Street is a sympathetically restored 240 year-old terraced, former millworkers' cottage situated in the village of Cromford on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park . The cottage combines simple Georgian style with modern comforts and is perfect for those wishing to explore the picturesque Peak District. The sitting room is tastefully furnished with an impressive stone fireplace and wood burning stove for a chilly evening. The modern kitchen provides all the cooking essentials as well as a table for dining. Original steep stairs lead to the first floor where there is a beautiful double bedroom with a spiral wooden staircase leading to the second floor, charming bedroom and bathroom with generous walk-in shower. Our outside bench is at the side of the cottage where you can relax to the sound of the spring filling the stone well. We Provide: All bedding, hand towels, bath towels, tea towels, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, toilet rolls and starter pack for the burner/stove.
Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)
  • Wonderful little cottage, which was both beautiful outside and in. We spent a lovely weekend, split between visiting the local area including Chatsworth, Matlock and Bakewell (which are all within a 30min drive of the cottage) and relaxing in the cottage. The cottage is well done, blending modern comfort with period features. A bonus was having a working wood burner, that added to the cosy feel. Karen was a great host, checkin and out was seamless, with details provided in advance. Plenty information was available on the workings of the cottage too, such as heating and oven controls. We had a lovely stay and am sure we will be back again.

    Antony2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's cottage is beautifully located with everything at your fingertips. Much more than what I expected with the cottage making you feel at ease, comfortable and right at home. The stairs are fairly steep and might cause some difficulty for some people but everything else was perfect. So good, we plan on visiting again next year. Highly recommend Karen's cottage to anyone looking for a home away from home!

    Robyn2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a really great place in a special location. The world heritage street had real character and the house itself is full of charm. As advertised there are very steep stairs up to the 2nd floor where the bathroom is located. But the house is well equipped with everything you could need. The village itself is very sweet with 4 eateries and a local shop for essential bits and bobs. We would definitely go back if we were in the area.

    Anne2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely historic cottage in a beautiful part of the Peak District. Close to great walks, tourist attractions and nice pubs and restaurants. Karen is a great host too. A perfect bolt hole!

    Andy2018-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Karen’s beautiful cottage. It was very well located, cosy and had everything we needed. It’s located at the end of a quiet historic street and there are lots of places to eat and drink moments away. Highly recommended!

    Stephen2018-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Karen's cottage! The cottage is very pretty and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is well stocked so you can enjoy a meal in. Cromford itself has one or two places worth visiting (the bookshop we would highly recommend - such character!) and the cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the Peak District. We didn't meet Karen but she was on hand throughout our stay for tips!

Marble Wet room with LED shower, stone walls, Beams. Cottage built 1740, UNESCO heritage village. Close to deli butchers, pubs, shop, restaurants, canal/antique shops. Own entrance @ front + small gated area. Look at iplayer pubs power villages programme for Cromford information Close to expensive hotel.
For booking Winter and Spring it’s beautiful to visit. Lots of walks and festive events. Pubs have roaring fires, dogs welcome most places. (It’s what enticed me to the area as it’s a lovely time of year). Chatsworth Christmas as well as Haddon Halls is a must. Come and stay. You won’t be disappointed. (Maps and info and waking books all in the snug). Deborah. Please see video: (Website hidden by Airbnb) December - bbc put a programme on about Cromford. It’s on iplayer. The pubs ponds and power programme. A very arty, historic, unique little space. Own entrance and full private use of your lounge/bed settee, kitchen/diner and shower/wet room/bathroom. All on ground floor. Easy access. Central heating with 3 radiators regularly coming on. Cottage (built (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) is central village on the main road. Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. No need to use your car if you want to explore the surroundings. Welcome to store bikes around the back. For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), Amazon prime and iPlayer, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs plus monks pew seat and a wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. I’m not one for ironing but it’s all laundered immediately after each stay. There is a padded blanket to put under the sheet should you want it softer. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. You can pull up in the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also. I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock Bath. Autumn/ winter much quieter. I’ve had mostly 5 stars for cleanliness for the snug and its bedding which I spend a good deal of time on, however I’m not a great ironer so please don’t expect pristinely ironed bedding. Everything is freshly hot washed abd new on however. Jenny Aitken is a fantastic local artist if your wanting to learn to paint. She is based near to Belper. Please (Hidden by Airbnb) her for details. Update on log burner. There has been a few people not using it correctly which can be dangerously worrying. I can show you how. I do not supply logs or coal as I put the heating on to keep the snug warm (3 radiators). If you want to use it for ambience reasons then please bring own sticks/paper which are clean. (The shop sells some across the road). It will not take very large logs. You won’t need much heat as the snug is warm. Please keep door closed and do not overload. Keep the 2 valves mostly closed so that it does not burn too quickly. I can show anyone who needs help. Please say if bringing a dog. Plus type of dog. Please could you bring your own blanket for dog to sit on. I can supply a bed and blanket at an extra price if needed.
Good public transport right outside, train station near by. Lots of shops, pubs restaurants on your doorstep. Cromford beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Lots of restaurants, pubs. An amazing butchers and deli right across the road. Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. The greyhound is lovely for gin and has greasy menu for meals. It’s also a hotel with charges £175 a night. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Deborah is a lovely lady, her little snug is homely and clean. The location is perfect for a no drive break away, with every thing you need easily accessible. We had a lovely long weekend. Grace

  • a nice little place close to pubs and point of interests. was comfortable for the two of us,the log burner was our favourite.

    Eszter2018-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Berties Snug is a small quirky place which has character and Deborah is a warm and welcoming host. However it was much noisier outside than we had expected as the property is very close to a busy road. We would have liked the bedding for the pullout sofa bed to have been fresher as it seemed not to have been cleaned since the last occupant stayed.

    Charles2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah is a lovely host, she makes sure you have everything you need and is very friendly and attentive, she even took the time to show me round the village on my first night. The snug is quirky and authentic and the pull out bed is very comfortable. There is beautiful countryside a short drive away. Kitchen is well kitted out for your cooking needs. Great stay.

    Liz2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovely host and cozy cottage

    Gertrude2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had the loveliest stay in Burty’s snug. Such a great little space that was very homely, especially when the fire was lit. Deborah gave us plenty of information about where to visit whilst we were there. The location is great and nestled in to a small village with a local shop and plenty of local pubs. About a 20 minute walk into Matlock where you can find even more to do. Deborah was a lovely host and we will happily stay again!

    Sarah2018-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place, nice and cosy with everything you need when you're away from home. Don't be deterred by the sofa bed arrangements, it's comfier than most beds. We'll recommended.

    Harriett2018-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place in the middle of the town, no more than a minutes walk from the main square. Charming decoration and comfortable beds, Deborah was very helpful in pointing out local entertainment (chicken racing - seriously).

  • Jane's cottage is simply stunning! We would not hesitate to come back again, even for a longer stay. We were visiting at the time when it was snowing a lot and almost got stranded. Jane was very hospitable and even offered us to stay at her own home in the case we could not get back that night. She is an excellent host!

    Lucia2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's cottage is a gem; beautiful, quiet, warm, with lots of kind and thoughtful touches - everything you could possibly need for a really relaxing coutry break. We loved the logburner and the well equipped kitchen for slap up breakfasts. Nice local pubs and restaurants for eating out too and plenty of local tourist info provided. Thanks so much Jane!

    Lucy2018-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Jane's lovely cottage for four nights and it was a great experience. The kitchen is very well equipped and in front of the house there is a nice little garden. Over the road there is a pub and nearby are several points of interest, Chatsworth House, Masson Mills, Cromford Mill, Calke Abbey and of course the beautiful Peak district

    Arie2018-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Jane’s cottage. It was very comfortable with lots of lovely extras to make the stay enjoyable. The kitchen is well equipped. The bed is comfortable. The shower is great. Check in was easy. Good local information available for guests. The location was great for us. Just be aware that the steps to upstairs wouldn’t suit someone with mobility issues, but they’re fine for most people. We would definitely stay again next time.

  • Perfect for a relaxed getaway

  • Lovely cottage to stay. Well placed for a gentle walk/stroll into Matlock Bath, and further into Matlock. Well located for a short drive to Bakewell, and Chatsworth. We stayed for 3 nights - we should've booked a longer stay as there's so much more to be explored around Cromford and it's surrounding areas.

    Linda2018-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend break at Toodles Cottage after booking very last minute with Anya. The property was warm and welcoming with everything we could have possibly needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed the Log burner which was laid and ready to light on our arrival. Perfect ,as we had sleety snow most of the weekend ! Please note: the beds are very comfortable and cosy! The stairs in the cottage although accompanied by well positioned hand rails are quite steep so could be problematic for anyone with mobility issues. Cromford is an interesting and quaint town to explore and the centre is a short walk downhill from the property. Matlock, Matlock Bath, and Carsington Water are all within close proximity. All great areas for walking. We took advantage of Anya's generous hospitality and left later on the Sunday as there were no imminent bookings for Toodles Cottage. Thanks for accommodating us, we really appreciated it .

    Jo2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, homely cottage and a great location for exploring all around the Peak District. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, whilst the log burner was fully stocked, meaning we could have the fire on all three nights we stayed. It was so lovely to come back to after our days out!!

    Rebecca2015-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, very cosy, ideal for a base for walking/cycling in Peak District.

    Andy2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful quirky cottage with everything you could need for a lovely stay! Stairs are very steep and uneven if you do struggle with balance or mobility but if not I would definitely recommend this cottage. So much information was given before and during our stay which made it easy and relaxing for us.

  • Great little apartment in the centre of Matlock with everything on your doorstep . Very well equipped and much nicer than an hotel bedroom . Can get noisey on a Saturday evening due to late bars however this happens in the centre of most towns so I wouldn’t be put off using Sharon’s apartment again Tommy & Tina Nottinghamshire

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from The Forge. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill. The space The Forge has been carefully created out of a mellow stone barn in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely open lounge and dining area adjacent to the cosy sleeping area. The lounge has a comfortable settee with flat screen internet T.V.Freeview and Wi-Fi. The studio has a separate kitchen has with fitted units, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge/ freezer. The bathroom has a fabulous shower area along with sink and W.C. Guest access The apartment is accessed through patio doors seen in the photo, completely self contained and detached from the main house. There is an allocated parking space adjacent to the entrance and a small patio with table and chairs for enjoying the rural setting
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the porch!!
  • Lovely peaceful location and perfect for anyone holidaying alone

  • Great location for exploring the Peak District. Right on the door step to Matlock but just further enough away to feel right in the countryside also. The property enjoys great views and offers good walks in the surrounding area. Wendy and John were great hosts and very helpful. Overall a nice little break.

    Warren2018-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little space, very charming and incredibly clean. All open plan and much more spacious than photos imply. Perfectly located for exploring the surrounding area. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend.

  • This is a lovely spacious apartment in beautiful surroundings. In the countryside yet very close to Matlock. There is a Sainsbury's superstore located only 5 minutes away which was very handy.

    Tracey2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location overlooking the twinkling lights of Darley Dale at nightime; rural walks just a few steps away yet less than a mile from civilisation. Relaxing & quiet; comfy and warm.

    Terri2018-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a few days at The Forge and we found everything pretty much spotless. Starting from the kitchen, there is everything you will ever need, the combi microwave is good enough for cooking meals, the coach is super comfy, we loved binging Netflix on a very rainy Sunday, and the shower is fantastic. The view from the glass door is to die for!

    Federico2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous place to stay. The Forge has superb facilities. All the important things are modern and efficient, but the charming atmosphere is created with recycled furniture and one or two fascinating antiques. The location couldn't be better; it sits in a cluster of very authentic farm buildings and overlooks the stunning scenery of the Derbyshire Dales. Wendy gave us a warm welcome and made sure that we had everything that we could possibly need. Hotel comforts as close as you can get to the English countryside!

    Simon2018-08-31T00:00:00Z

The mill yard cottage has been in the family for many years. We have decided to totally renovate it and place it up on Airbnb. Fabulous 4 star luxury. Great for walking cycling & exploring Derbyshire Dales/Peak District close to Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth. Alton Towers & Matlock Bath 3 miles.
Mill yard has a safe enclosed grass garden with a few steps leading to a stone patio circle. Garden furniture for the guest will provided for alfresco dining. Car parking is available directly next to the house. The cottage is 2 mill cottages knocked into one to create a homely comfortable space to stay & enjoy the fabulous market town of Wirksworth. Art works from around the world adorn the walls to create a homely welcoming feeling & also fit with the bohemian life of Wirksworth with its art trail in September and numerous festivals through out the year.
Mill Yard is in an envious position backing on to Wyvern railway, which run heritage trains from Wirksworth to Millford. The cottage is on the flat so people who don't like hills will love the ease of walking directly out of the door. With in a stones throw Wirksworth Leisure centre with climbing wall and swimming pool. The doctors is situated across the road as is a bus stop. The heritage Market Town of Wirksworth is an easy 10 minute stroll to the market place, where you will find a multitude of pubs, bars, cafes, bistros, micro brewery and shops.
  • Great place to stay

    Toby2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was great and had everything we needed. The new decor was nice and our boys loved the lights in the shower!! It was great being able to walk into Wirksworth which is a lovely town. Great location for walking and cycling.

    Kate2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • New rental requiring a few things put right. Sharron the landlady was great at sorting out the early issues so I expect everything will be perfect for future guests. Short walk to Wirksworth centre, two good restaurants and several friendly pubs. Good local walks, amenities and bus services.

    Ian2017-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Recommended. Lovely spot, clean; perfectly equipped. Lots of special touches: this place has a unique and welcoming feel.

    Nicholas2018-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I have just had a lovely weekend catching up and visiting the local sights from our base at Sharron's home. The cottage is well equipped, warm, nicely furnished, spotlessly clean and well located to access the pretty village of Wirksworth with Cromore and Matlock nearby. No problem with WIFI, smart TVs in the lounge; the beds were really comfortable with brand new bedding and the shower was amazing! Sharron's a great host, providing lots of helpful information and she left us a generous welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and chocolate! She and her husband Barry are also close by to help if needed which is very reassuring. I would recommend Sharron's cottage to anyone that fancies a lovely break in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. It is located in an industrial area of the village but this shouldn't put you off. It was incredibly quiet and only a short step away from the village high street with local shops and pubs and a farmers market on Saturday!

    Emma2017-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • very nice. all as pictured.

A cosy downstairs bedroom with central heating and coffee/tea making facilities (no breakfast provided but have use of fridge, toaster, microwave and kettle). Set in quiet meditation centre. Everyone welcome. Please note we are a alcohol, meat and smoking free house. Set only 50 m from the village high street with busy cafes pubs and restaurants. You will be given your own key to the front door. No restrictions on when you come and go.
  • If you are looking for a quiet, clean house which is also close to lovely Matlock,-this is it! This Airbnb is perfectly located for a stay in Matlock. Close to the main street, restaurants and attractions but very quietly tucked behind it. There is no street parking directly in front of it, but for long stays, permits might be purchased. Just a few minutes from the house is a large, secure station car park, with reasonable rates ( £1 overnight, and hourly rates during the day- which I thought were very reasonable) The room is large, with a comfortable bed, wardrobes, cosy armchair, and tea and coffee-making facilities plus biscuit snacks. Everything was clean and bright, including the shower and bathroom, and fluffy towels are supplied.

Beautiful 3 bedroom Grade 2 listed stone cottage in this historic village, formerly one of the Arkwright workers' cottages. Large and welcoming kitchen with island and seating, lovely dining room opening up into the lounge with original stone fireplace and impressive log burner. Original stone tiled floor throughout. Downstairs also has a 'snug' with sofa bed and utility area which leads to a small outside seating area. Very large master bedroom and fully refitted bathroom with separate shower.
Would suit a couple or large group alike. Cyclists, walkers, outdoor, adventurers, young and old....
Cromford is a wonderful and friendly village, steeped in history and providing ease of access to number of key Peak District towns, great walks, trails and attractions. Local village shop, a few take-aways and restaurants and two lovely pubs.
  • Helen’s cottage is located in a pretty village within easy reach to great restaurants, butchers, local grocers and the canal walk is only a 15 minute walk away. The cottage is situated next to a main road so if you’re using the front room to sleep this will get noisy in the morning. We did not use this room as the upstairs bedrooms were sufficient for the 6 of us. Unfortunately, my 74 year old mother tripped and fell on one of the steps which lead to the guest double bedroom so we had to find alternative accommodation for my parents. Therefore, I would not recommend the cottage to elderly people. The flush system in the toilet didn’t work properly and the water pressure to take a bath was slow. Having one bathroom/loo was not ideal for the 6 of us. So if you are a group of more than 4 you should bare this in mind. On the plus side, the master bedroom was a lovely size and the bed was extremely comfortable. The kitchen was clean and well equipped with dishwasher. Large fridge freezer. Clean kettle and new toaster and lovely ceramic chopping boards. It was useful having a washing machine and dryer - both worked well.

    Carol2018-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • A group of 7 of us stayed in Helen's lovely cottage for a cycling weekend. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed and more - towels, very well equipped kitchen, lots of toiletries, etc. The accommodation was very easy to find and access, with plenty of parking a couple of minutes away, and everything was spotlessly clean. The cottage was fantastically located in the lovely village of Cromford, with great access to the Peaks for fantastic cycling. There are a couple of local pubs (we had a very reasonably priced meal at the Boat) and a very pretty pond - lovely spot for a picnic/evening drink!

    Sarah2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Spent Christmas in Cromford & had a wonderful time! The cottage was clean, spacious, warm, and had everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner etc. Lots of room for children to play. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to relax with friends. Really appreciated the information about local amenities etc. The village is very pretty. Loved the local pub (Boat Inn?) Great butchers just down the road. And we could have spent ours in the book shop! Will be recommending the cottage to friends and family.

    Donna2017-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage - very spacious, everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. Brilliant location - Cromford is a lovely village, also able to walk into Matlock Bath. Bus stop across the road too. Would definitely stay again!

  • Cromford is a great place to stay with brilliant walks and amenities, (the Boat and the Bell are both really friendly pubs for example and bookshop is excellent). The house is spacious, clean and well stocked. Helen was a great communicator and we appreciated the bottle of wine.

    Sonya2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely character cottage with loads of space. A huge kitchen with an island and stools so you can sit and eat there. Also a massive dining table as part of the lounge. The master bedroom was huge and the other 2 bedrooms really good sizes. Plenty of towels and facecloths and even toiletries! The beds were beautifully made up and so so comfy. A pub next door and lots of pubs restaurants and quirky shops just a short walk away. Helen had left a really nice guide of all her recommended places to visit. Us 3 girls and our doggy thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

    Louisa2018-04-15T00:00:00Z

Pretty little brick built victorian cottage, on the edge of Cromford, 5 minutes drive from the Peak Park
2 bedrooms, 1 double & 1 with a bunk & further trundle single bed. Huge bathroom with fire place, lounge, smart TV & DVD player, wi-fi, fully kitted out kitchen with washer/dryer, microwave, welsh dresser & dining table. Although there are fireplaces, please note these are not working! Back courtyard with plants, table & chairs & chiminea House can be accessed from either the front door, or via the back (which is our preferred door!) Available on request: high chair travel cot stair gate All bedding & towels are provided. Parking is in the road on a first come, first served basis and free of charge. If you can't park close to the cottage, normally other drivers don't mind waiting a minute if you stop to unload your car.
Cromford is a pretty village, several very good pubs & restaurants serving food & often have evening entertainment, local food shop & butchers. A number of individual shops can also be found, including the famous Scarthin bookshop, which also serves tea, coffee & food in a cafe hidden behind a bookcase. Cromford also has a canal, where trips on barges can be taken, there is also the Arkwright Mills to visit. There are mill ponds through the village, we are opposite one of them and the biggest can be found behind the Greyhound hotel & pub. Close by is the old railway that is now a lovely walk and over the road from us, you can access the nature reserve as well. Nearby can be found Matlock Bath & Wirksworth.

The separate ground floor apartment forms part of an old inn called the Miners Standard which dates back to around 1766. It has all the charm of a character derbyshire mining village with all the creature comforts of modern living inside. We have high quality double bed including a pocket sprung / memory foam mattress. With high quality count bedding and anti allergy quilts and pillows. Branded products throughout in the kitchen and a JVC multimedia TV / DVD for your relaxing time in front of the tv. Middleton-by-Wirksworth is an upland village lying approximately one mile of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, formerly known for its lead mines and high quality limestone quarries, including the underground quarry site at Middleton Mine. The Middleton Mine networks underground for approximately 25 miles with tunnels on three different levels running under Middleton Moor to the Hopton Wood. Middleton formed originally in the Saxon times as a small farming hamlet which settled around a very high spring. The former Cromford and High Peak Railway passes through the bottom of the village. The local quarries were linked to this line by a short branch spur, Killer's Branch, part of which now forms the track bed of the Steeple Grange Light Railway. This runs during the summer months at weekends and bank holidays. In the 1970s, the disused track bed of the Cromford and High Peak Railway and some surrounding land were purchased by the Derbyshire County Council and the Peak Park Planning Board, who then worked collaboratively to turn the former railway into the 17-mile High Peak Trail for walkers and cyclists. Middleton Top lies near the southern end of the trail, which starts at High Peak Junction. There is a car park and visitor centre at Middleton Top, where cycles may be hired. Middleton Top Engine House houses a preserved steam engine formerly used to haul trains up the 700-yard (640 m) long 1-in-8 (12.5%) gradient of Middleton Incline.
  • We had a great stay. Beautiful weather, amazing walks, and the pub in walking distance down the road. The flat was lovely, decorated to a high standard and very clean. Helen made us a slice of cake each that was delicious and much appreciated.

They were both so helpful and welcoming and the house was beautiful, clean, warm and had everything we needed. We went for some great walks in the area - no need to drive as there was a lovely circular walk just straight from their house. We decided to eat in for a couple of nights, and the kitchen facilities provided everything we needed. The local pub is also a welcoming, friendly place for a beer by the fire after a long walk. Thanks very much for a wonderful holiday.

  • Very clean and cozy house. Excellent scones baked by Helen on arrival. Close to the beautiful trails in Peak District. Highly recommended.

    Andi2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was mine and my partners first AirBnB and talk about setting the bar high. This property is absolutely perfect (no exaggeration). Helen and Rod were fantastic on check-in and were available should we have needed them. After a long drive from London the Milk, Tea, Coffee and Sugar that Helen and Rod left for us (along with some amazing home made cake) were greatly appreciated. The weather wasn't great whilst we were there but it gives us an excuse to go back to the area in the future, and if/when we do we hope to be able to stay in the apartment again!

  • Very comfortable accommodation situated in a great location in Peak District, close to beautiful walking areas and tourist attractions. Apartment was warm, clean and well equipped & would certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending. Helen & Rod were very welcoming, lots of local knowledge and lovely lemon cake!!

    Diane2017-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Helen's apartment made for a perfect AirBnb stay. Both she and Rob were easy and quick to communicate with, and the place was easy to find. The apartment was charming, clean, and came with everything you could want for a very comfortable stay. It is was perfectly located with beautiful walks and scenery nearby - you don't even need to jump in the car. The scones on arrival were a cherry on top moment. Tens across the board, and I'd highly recommend staying here to anybody.

  • Large, clean, stylish, space. Modern with all amenities. Extra special touches such as lovely homemade cake, guides and history’s books of the peaks, board games etc. Great location to the peaks with lots to do all around. Helen and Rod were fantastic friendly hosts who pointed out great locations to visit. Would definitely stay again.

    Rebecca2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a 5* experience except for a slight disappointment with the fire. My girlfriend and I had deliberately searched for a property with a fireplace so were a little disappointed when we turned up and were unable to get one going as the fire requires specific smokeless fuel which our hosts did not have. Helen and Rod tell me they plan to offer 'fire packs' in future for a small additional cost which seems like a good idea to me. Helen and Rod themselves were very friendly and offered lots of tips about the area - Helen also gave us some lovely cake which was delicious. We had a lovely time walking across Middleton Top over to Black Rock and also spent a day in Matlock. On our way home we stopped in Bakewell, home to the infamous Bakewell Pudding - Rod was clear that we should not upset the locals by calling it a bakewell tart. This was definitely worth a try! Would highly recommend!

3 bedroom private flat on the grounds of Cromford Court. 2 double bedrooms and one single. One bathroom with a bath & toilet. One individual toilet and one shower room.
  • We didn't find the place as clean as it should be and was I need of updating. There was not enough crockery etc for a family of 5.

  • We were made to feel so welcome and at home in this lovely flat. There was everything you needed and more, even down to milk and biscuits! Had a comfortable stay in a beautiful building

  • This was a truly wonderful stay. All 6 of us were so pleasantly surprised with the place, rooms and how homey the place felt. Absolutely loved it!!! Communication was so easy, and she was so friendly and accommodating. The places we went to over the weekend were all within walking distance. I would highly highly recommend this place.

  • Great location, lots to do nearby, spacious flat, comfy lounge, host was very welcoming and the communication was very good. Good for families. Our dog was made to feel welcome too!

    Helen2018-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The buildings are imposing and the flat clean, cosy and comfortable. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, there was milk ready in the fridge, and the beds comfortable. The only downside was the time it takes for hot water to come through in the showers - but we had been warned about that, and with patience it arrives! The access drive is steep and twisty (something to think about in snow!) but the place is very well located just opposite the old Masson Mill and we would certainly go again. Recommended.

  • We stayed in the Tractor Shed for 3 nights over the New Year. Anna was a really great host; the living room was really cozy and light with lovely stylish touches everywhere and finished to an amazing standard. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and there was a brilliant waterfall shower. Anna had also supplied a really sweet welcome basket for us and she had thought of everything you could need. Would really highly recommend.

  • This is a beautifully kitted out little nest. Great location for quiet walks and a visit to Lea Gardens which is walking distance (about 25mins). The hosts are quick to respond and very hospitable. A good find.

  • Our first stay at an air b n b and won’t be our last! The decor was gorgeous, it was really clean and the bed and duvet were really comfy. There was a welcome basket of delicious local produce when we arrived which was a lovely unexpected touch. It’s a lovely place to stay; we only had two nights and spent a full day at Chatsworth (8 miles away). We’d love to return and explore the local walks and other amenities another time.

    Sophie2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful space for a weekend stay, very romantic. Me any my partner had a really good time here. Our only issue was the country roads leading up to it as we arent used to that.

    Anna2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at the Tractor Shed. The place was beautifully decorated and super cozy. The bed was also very comfy with a very fluffy duvet. The living space was also very well decorated, comfortable couch (with lots of throws), dining table for two, and complete kitchen amenities. We also arrived to an amazing basket of local produce. The best part was the shower, there was a rain shower and a high pressure shower head. Anna and her husband were very welcoming. They were also readily available when we had some issues with the tv. We definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in some peace and quite.

    Karen2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, so clean, quirky and cosy and a great get away in the countryside. We had the dog with us and the weather was against us to explore the local area on foot so were glad to have the car to get about and explore the local towns.

One bedroom holiday let, located on the first floor of a four floor townhouse, recently restored with the space and the character you’d expect in this Victorian property. Additional sleeping for 2 is provided with a bed settee to the living room. Large open fire place in the living room for making the place cosy. The holiday let has its own entrance and is completely self contained, but does form part of the main house, there is parking on the front of the house but no drop curb.
The apartment has one en-suite bedrooms, a living room (with bed settee) and a kitchen. The kitchen has a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, range, toaster and kettle.
  • Excellent location for exploring Matlock Bath, Matlock and Peak District. Very spacious and comfortable cottage with lovely open fire in the living room. Mike was always available if needed and a great host.

Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of The Derbyshire Peak District, an ideal location for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. The cottage, originally a quarryman's dwelling, has been fully refurbished and is maintained to a high standard. The accommodation: double and single bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and TV lounge. Outside is a decked sitting area. Guests also have use of a croquet lawn, boules court and parking in the garden of Babington House next door.
  • Warm, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Beautiful place and location to stay when visiting the Peak District.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Wirksworth and loved being able to stay in such a cosy space in the snow! The views out of the kitchen and bedroom windows are spectacular and there are lots of sweet spaces to relax in. Wirksworth itself has some great shops - we recommend the bakery and butcher's! There are also some really beautiful walks close by. The only difficult thing is driving up the hill to park your car!

    Abi2018-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Anne's place. Anne was a pleasant host and the house was very comfortable; we felt very much at home. We'd highly recommend Anne's place for anybody wanting a picturesque holiday in Derbyshire.

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from the cottage. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.
The Hayloft has been carefully created out of a mellow stone hay loft in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely vaulted lounge, dining and kitchen area. The lounge has a comfortable settee and chair, flat screen T.V. D.V.D, SKY and Wi-Fi together with a glowing inset electric fire. The superb kitchen has quality fitted units, halogen hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and automatic washer/dryer. A vaulted double bedroom. An adjoining bathroom with bath/hand held shower and W.C. Continental breakfasts, spa treatments and celebration cakes available on request - please contact Wendy for more details
Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the little patio as the swifts and house martins swoop overhead
  • Very good communication. The place is very cosy and stylish. Great location for visiting the area, not too remote as there is a huge Sainsbury’s a 5 min drive away. Only comment is that the bathroom was not that clean. We had a lovely New Years stay.

  • We both had a lovely stay at The Hayloft, Its had a nice homely feeling to it, Great location, lovely and quiet at night. Highly recommended.

  • We stayed here for primarily for work as I was co-ordnating a wedding in a field the village so it was THE perfect spot me to be on hand over the weekend; it was also such a lovely place, in a lovely little village to stay in that it made me feel like I was actually on a mini break and (almost) not working! The hayloft was just perfect too it was just to our taste, old stone building, wooden beams, modern interior, tastefully decorated, well maintained and clean and was a lovely retreat to come back to after a few long days. Wendy was on hand/contactable if needed but left us to our own devices which worked well. We were befriended by a friendly black cat who seemed to be used to making herself at home but we enjoyed the company! Everything was great and would definitely recommend staying there.

  • The hayloft is a great location and was really convenient for us as we were going to a wedding in Matlock. The walking near the loft is just stunning and we accidentally ended up taking Wendy and John's dog for a walk (or he took us really!) Wendy and John were great hosts and answered all of my questions quickly.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • We spent a lovely weekend at Painters Cottage. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the children! The communication was excellent throughout and Anne even let us stay a little later at check out. The hill is steep but we managed it, and we are from flat Norfolk! This is mentioned though before you book. We parked in the town, there is a car park at the bottom of the road and only cost £4 to £5 for the evening until 11am the next day. We have a rather large car and found it easier than going up the hill. The area is lovely and the cottage is in an excellent position to allow one to wander into matlock bath and we enjoyed some yummy fish and chips, a play in the park, a walk up the hill and some arcade fun!! We would highly recommend Painters Cottage and will stay again if in the area. Thank you.

    Claire2018-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is set above Matlock Bath in a wonderfully quiet and peaceful location. We used it as a base to explore the local area where the scenery is varied and impressive. The house offered excellent accommodation and Anne is a really good host - easy to communicate with and quick to respond.

  • Lovely cosy cottage with such wonderful views. Well worth the walk up the hill. Great view of the Saturday night fireworks at Matlock Bath.

  • Beautiful cottage, thoughtful host, amazing views. Close to the train station. 20% off Heights of Abraham with your train tickets.

  • Lovely house in a great location (as long as you don't need a parking space too close!). Beautiful views. Comfy beds. Would recommend if you're looking for a comfortable place to stay.

  • The house has such charm and breathtaking views, a cosy place for use to take a short breather from our camping holiday. the location was quiet, beds clean and comfortable. and a few things stocked in the kitchen to get us started. Anne was a pleasure to meet and did her very best to make sure we had a great break!

    Alan2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely long weekend away. Though steep, so not necessarily for those with mobility problems, the cottage had the perfect location for us having come without a car. Just 5 minutes walk from Matlock Bath Station those not fancying the walk into Matlock can pick a return ticket for just 80p. Matlock Bath "strip" is under 10 minutes and, though steep it is only a 20 minute walk up to the Heights of Abraham. As well as the train, the 6.1 bus runs from the bottom of the hill into Derby, or a more country route towards Bakewell via Haddon Hall and Matlock Farm Park, and with a hop on and off bus ticket choice, it really opens up the exploring possibilities... The cottage itself was lovely and homely and enjoying evenings by the fire certainly added to the charm. Stunning views for the master bedroom and living room were complimented by the painting throughout. If traveling in the area, whether couple, friends or family, I cannot recommend this cottage more.

    Tina2017-10-30T00:00:00Z

Ranmoor was lovingly restored by its owners in 2017/18. Situated in the heart of Matlock Bath with fabulous views, the cottage has a wealth of original features including a cosy log burner. The cottage is furnished with an eclectic mix of contemporary, vintage and antique French furniture with a luxury bathroom. There are 3 bedrooms and an additional downstairs shower room/WC. Ranmoor has a lovely walled cottage garden/courtyard. The house will be seasonally decorated Dec/New Year.
The cottage kitchen has an integrated washing machine, dishwasher, fan oven, hob and fridge. There is a microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. The spacious kitchen diner has an original quarry tiled floor and a cosy vintage log burner. There is a downstairs WC/shower room with a ‘rain shower’. The sitting room has wonderful views across the river Derwent and valley. It has a stylish Chesterfield sofa, armchairs, a fireplace and a 40 inch Freesat TV and DVD player. Bedroom 1 has a French antique king size bed with a matching armoire. Bedroom 2 has a French double bed. Bedroom 3 has bunk beds these are full size single however it is recommended the top bunk is only used by children or a small adult. The bathroom has a luxurious freestanding bath with freestanding taps. Linen and towels are included. Outside there is a lovely cottage garden with a secure brick bike store available on request. *Enjoy the beautiful Venetian Nights firework display from the garden every Saturday evening throughout September/October.
Matlock Bath is a unique village with something for everyone including stunning scenery, beautiful walks and cycle rides, cable cars, canoeing, rock climbing, a theme park a great mix of pubs, restaurants and cafes. - Matlock Bath is a small spa town in the Peak District, fortunately prohibited in growth by the steeply wooded limestone cliffs forged by the River Derwent. Thermal springs discovered in the late 17th century led to the growth of the village as a health resort. These days the town attracts many visitors but probably most famously to its dramatic cable car ride which spans the hugely picturesque valley nearby our property and is known as The Heights of Abraham'. The cottage could not be better situated to access the treasures of the Peak Park with the country houses of Chatsworth, Haddon, Hardwick, Tissington and Bolsover Castle all within a 20 minute drive. Further market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, and Wirksworth are within a short drive. The A6 which runs through the valley provides swift access to the A38 and the motorway networks with a national rail hub in Derby. Matlock Bath train station is a 10 minute walk away with hourly services to Derby and Nottingham.
  • The house is stunning. We were met on arrival by the hosts who have been nothing but really helpful and punctual with all their communication. The house looks understated from the road. You have to walk down a few steepish steps to the front door so may not be ideal for those with mobility issues. The hill that the house is on is also steep but those with normal fitness will be fine. The interior is beautiful with an open kitchen space with real log fire and comfy lounge with stunning views. The bedrooms were all comfy and there are even toys in the children's room which were all neatly tidied away. The hosts even treated us to a bottle of wine and some local shortbread. Nothing but positives to say about the hosts and accommodation. Thank you

  • We stayed a week in Petra's place with 3 friends and had a great time. The cottage is comfortable and very well placed, a short walk to the main street, although somewhat steep in parts. We all enjoyed the outdoor settings in the garden for relaxing, reading and enjoying the country scenery. Petra was most helpful with information on local attractions. There are many beautiful gardens in the area to see, and history to absorb.

  • We had an absolutely amazing time staying here! Petra was lovely and so helpful. When we arrived there was a bottle of prosecco and cupcakes left for us which was a really nice and unexpected surprise! The house is so beautiful and the garden with the decking was great in the sunshine. Don’t have anything negative to say about this place at all :) Thanks again Petra!

We had everything we needed in the house as well as nice little treats left for us including a bottle of Prosecco which was much needed after a stressful week so thank you for that Petra! Would definitely recommend this house to others and would more than happily stay here again if in the area.

A cosy, quirky 17th/19th century cottage with simple charm. Small, stone, single storey one bed dwelling that used to be the village shop. Log burner in the spacious lounge. A kitchen with everything you need and it's own secret garden with views of Riber castle which can be seen whilst sitting in the rustic garden room. Ideally located for exploring the Peak District National park and the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Matlock 2.5 miles away with pubs, supermarket, restaurants, shops etc.
The cottage will be at your complete disposal, from the photos you can see there is a spacious lounge, a compact but fully working kitchen with all the utensils you require, if the weather is bad you could build a log fire and bake a cake! A spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a large walk in shower. Included in the price is bedding, linen and towels, tea, coffee and sugar. There is a log burner but you need to bring your own logs. Parking is on the road outside the cottage or just down the hill in the village square. Number 3 used to be the old village shop built in the 19th Century but some parts date back to the 17th Century! The outside space includes a small garden with a rustic garden room where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the distant view of Riber Castle or just lock up your bikes. From the garden a gate opens onto to the public footpath that takes you down to Wensley Dale, a very beautiful area with rare breed sheep wandering around and wild flowers everywhere. From here you could walk into Snitterton or climb Oaker Hill the views are stunning!
Thank you for looking at Needham Cottage, Wensley. A pretty stone village which was once a thriving lead miners community. The garden can be reached via the ginnel, ie turn left from the back door, keep walking until you see the gate with Number Three on it, that is us. Here you can enjoy the view and see Riber Castle in the distance. Togetherwith the unusual upcycled garden room, table and chairs. A public footpath passes the garden gate and this leads you down into Wensley Dale, not the Wensleydale where the cheese comes from but our own dale of outstanding natural beauty. The Area The Derbyshire Dales is a place of wooded valleys, with an occasional steam train chugging through, passing sparkling rivers with their ancient stone bridges and rolling green hills sprinkled with picturesque villages with their unique shops, cosy pubs and cobbled yards. Don't miss the Barley Mow at Bonsal or Wirksworth. There is plenty to do and see from arts and crafts festivals, pop festivals, antiques shops and fairs, markets, historic houses like Chatsworth and medieval Haddon Hall. In addition to this there is the world heritage site in the Derwent Valley for historians of all things industrial including Richard Arkwright's Cromford and Masson Cotton Mills, at Cromford. The summer events list is endless with Well Dressings from May to September, The International Hen Racing Championships are hillarious, beer festivals, the spa town of Matlock Bath with its theme park, The Heights of Abraham, the arcades and pubs with live music are about 4 miles away and not forgetting Matlock itself, only 2.5 miles downhill a pleasant market town with the river Derwent running through it, a lovely park with boating lake, several pubs, wine bars, music venue, market day is Wednesday, there is a large Sainsburys, (supermarket) Wilkos, Iceland and unique shops. etc. Parking for the cottage is either outside on the Main Road or in the village square just a short walk away. Thank you again for looking at Needham Cottage.
  • From a practical side, everything was great. It was clean, fully equipped kitchen and as described. More generally it's a great little bolt hole from which you can explore the Sales.

  • Trudys cottage is the perfect place to stay. The lounge is a good size and the woodburner was easy to light and kept the place warm - although there is central heating too. The bed was comfy. The electric shower easy to use and powerful. I felt safe as a single woman on her own. Thanks again

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • A lovely little, quirky cottage in a great location. Had everything we needed. Many thanks.

  • Wow, it's just a little piece of heaven! Hillside Cottage was amazing. Everything was lovely and well taken care off. Communication with Tiina was excellent and she made sure the cottage had everything you could possibly need. The cottage was super clean, the bed very comfortable, kitchen well equipped.... It was just perfect. Hillside Cottage is romantic and cosy. It is kind of tiny, but that made it all the more special. And how much space do you actually need? The cottage has great views of the countryside and it is a wonderful home base to explore the Peak District. I really want to come back some day!

  • Tiina's cottage is absolutely beautiful and really well equipped. The location is lovely with excellent walks on the doorstep. Tiina struck the balance between privacy and availability perfectly.

  • We had a beautiful stay at Tina's cottage! Gorgeous area and lovely accomodation. Would definitely reccommend! Thanks Tiina :)

  • We had a wonderful time in Wirksworth, much of it due to our stay in Tiina's immaculate cottage. The interior fittings are tasteful and of a high quality. The bed is a dream to sleep in, as is the kitchen to cook in. The setting of the cottage affords a lovely view of meadows and woods.

    Janmaarten2016-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in many Airbnbs and this is one of our favourites. An absolutely beautiful little place - expertly and very tastefully refurbished. We had everything we needed. Communication with Tiina was great. Wholeheartedly recommend to any single person or couple wanting a quiet and cosy break. You do need to be pretty agile though - the stairs are precipitous- and the little walk up from where the car is parked is quite steep. ... but this is a genuine little old cottage! Entirely delightful.

    Paul2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great two night stay, the cottage is very cosy and comfortable. We loved the area for the peace and quiet and lovely views and the neighbors were very friendly and helpful. Thanks to Tiina for being great host.

    Michelle2017-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, tiny cottage with everything you could possibly want! Clean and warm and comfortable.

    Liz2017-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Hillside Cottage is in a lovely spot with great views out over the countryside - especially from the loo! It has been very well designed and decorated and there is everything there that you could possibly need including milk, tea and coffee on arrival and a cupboard with basic condiments. Wirksworth is an interesting town and although it is a bit of a hike it isn't too far to walk in for the evenings to find some really good local pubs and a couple of restaurants. There is also a good selection of shops including grocers, butchers etc. Would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate modern bathroom is for your private use, it has an electric shower, washbasin, toilet and bath. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.
  • Loverly hosts, lovely accommodation and a lovely location.

  • This is a beautiful, quiet spot with a lovely view of the countryside from the bedroom window. The bedroom and bathroom were very nice, with a fantastic shower. If you get a chance, take in the exquisite back garden. Andrew offered a fabulous breakfast and even made suggestions on things to see in this wonderful part of the country. The homemade jams were delightful.

  • Andy and Sue's place is perfect for a nice picturesque trip to the lovely Peak District. They offered everything that you would need for a comfortable and easy stay and the place was exactly as it is described. Great local knowledge from the best village pubs and places to eat to really helpful and extensive recommendations for getting out into the countryside. Really appreciated the accommodating check-in, too, after travelling up late into the evening. Overall a great weekend.

  • Andrew and Sue are excellent hosts who provide a warm, welcoming, friendly and relaxed stay within their home. The room is very comfortable and spotlessly clean and the bathroom lovely and modern. The breakfast of a wide choice of fruit, cereal and toast and homemade jams was very good - more than I had expected! I stayed for business, but would very much hope to return for a holiday break.

    Caroline2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to just stop and relax. Andrew and Sue are so welcoming and everything was lovely. The little touches like chocolate biscuits in a jar and bubble bath put in the bathroom even before I had thought to ask were just some of the great features that made my stay extra special. Great value and very comfortable and inviting.

    Pippa2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay and were made to feel very welcome. It was a very comfortable place to return to after a day exhibiting at Wirksworth Festival.

My family of 7 had an incredible time at this delightful cottage. The home and its amenities exceeded our expectations! We were celebrating my wife's 40th birthday and Eleanor was so sweet to leave her a birthday card and basket of goodies upon our arrival. There was more than enough space for the 7 of us and we were so pleased to find the cottage stocked with books, games, toys, and movies which kept the children entertained when we weren't out exploring the beautiful area. The location was perfect for our short day trips to Chatsworth House and the caverns in Buxton. Just a short drive from the cottage is the lovely little village of Dovedale and a walk along the River Dove is a must! We absolutely will go back!

Liz was great. We arranged an arrival time directly with her, and she showed us the lovely room, exactly as pictured. Bit of a quirky bathroom, which need a little care to give an excellent shower. Liz has converted an old cottage into this very attractive living space. The breakfast was ample and delicious. We'd stay her again. Thanks, Liz!
