A beautiful market town. Eclectic selection of shops and a show case of local art and crafts. Boat trips on the canal. Walk to Hardcastle Craggs. It’s just 20 mins drive from the cottage or take the train from Todmorden (7 mins on train)

Hebden Bridge offers a cosmopolitan lifestyle in a beautiful green valley, with historical architecture of stone and slate buildings. Known as the Brighton of the North for its particularly large Lesbian and GBT community, plus its artistic, creative and musical culture and easy connectivity to larger cities via rail. As a town of independent shops, cafes, pubs and art galleries Hebden Bridge is full of unique experiences. With festivals every month, open mic in many pubs, storytelling for adults at the Stubbing Wharf, antique shops, fabulous markets, Local History Society talks, yoga classes, bong classes, plenty of alternative therapists, Sunday open jam sessions in the Baptist Church, the list is endless. The beauty of the town is also fascinating, sitting at the base of the valley it is surrounded by moors, woodland and hill top villages. The town itself is located at the junction of 3 rivers and has a canal running through it, with an aqueduct that carries the Rochdale Canal over the River Calder. It’s centre is now a conservation area with its historical cobbled streets, many bridges including the packhorse bridge circa 1510 and the original packhorse route up The Buttress, original mills and mill chimneys from the textile industry, religious buildings, network of steps, ginnels and old footpaths. The town has survived and even thrived, as locals pulled together, the floods of 2012, 2015 and then again in 2020.

Hebden Bridge, about 30 mins drive away, offers a wide range of alternative-culture shops, organic cafés and the fabulous old restored cinema “The Picture House”, or “The Little Theatre”, tucked below towering terraces of houses built into the hillside. The canal runs through Hebden and canal boat rides can be booked through the summertime. Heptonstall, an unspoilt weaving village, is just a stone’s throw up the hill and Yorkshire mill town Halifax, is a bit further along the Calder Valley.
