Staying at Adriana’s place in Hermosa Vista (San Agustin) was the high point of my trip. She is right next door to the CASA artistica, a huge art center run by the Mexican government. I was working on a writing project and thought that staying in the quiet of the mountains, immersed in the artistic energy of the Centro would support my writing. I wasn’t wrong. Pros: Beauty. I loved waking up in the morning to the breathtaking view from her terrace. The house is on a mountaintop looking out into the valley. San Agustin is a picturesque town and cultural center, visited by Mexican and international tourists. Clean air. The air quality is far superior to that in Oaxaca City. New Friends. Adriana is often traveling for business but I was lucky to be there in a time when she was home so I spent time with her, her assistant Socorro, who helps her out and runs the place when she’s not there, and a foreign guest who was staying in the other room. The other places I stayed in Mexico were lovely but because I was under a writing deadline I spent most of my time alone. This was the perfect social interlude, over Christmas, where I met new people, celebrated and socialized in a place of beauty and creativity. Nice accommodations. The whole 3-story house is tastefully and uniquely decorated. Due to Adriana’s design work and the work she does in representing Mexican artisans and artists, the common spaces have the feel of an artist workshop. In addition to the back terrace with view into the mountains, there is a large front terrace covered with plants facing a gorgeous church. That’s where, when I wasn’t writing in my room, I set myself up to write. The room I stayed in had a comfortable bed with quality bedding and abundant pillows, wooden wall closet with a locking cubbyhole for storing valuables, a ceiling fan and a medium-sized window facing the terrace. I’ve worked in the hotel industry and would say that based on the decor and furnishings it would probably rate 4 stars. There is a washing machine and three bathrooms with an acceptable level of hot water for showers. Proximity to Balneario Hermosa Vista. It’s only a ten minute walk to a fabulous Mexican spa with gorgeous views and five pools filled with mountain spring water. I’m not sure why spring water has this effect but each time I went, I got super-relaxed and slept like a baby afterwards. Some afternoons the spa reverts to a (family style) party atmosphere with quality music, sun and fun in the water. Cons: First I’ll premise that for me the cons weren’t really cons because my visit was more of a retreat than a touristic exploration. Also, this wasn’t my first trip to Oaxaca so I was familiar with the main town and ready to explore the countryside. Distance from Oaxaca City and food shopping. To get to the main city is an approx 30 minute trip in a collective taxi (or a more expensive private taxi), it’s actually a beautiful trip down the mountain and interesting one to Oaxaca but if you plan to go frequently it might be bit tiring and time-consuming. I don’t eat out much so I can’t comment on the local restaurants but there are several, including a vegetarian one. Hermosa Vista has only small convenience stores so a bigger shopping requires either walkIng or taking a taxi down the mountain to the food shops in San Sebastián. You could also go to Oaxaca City or the mercado in Villa Etla to shop but they are longer trips. Shared kitchen. As previously mentioned, I enjoyed the social aspect of this but the kitchen is shared with others. This wasn’t clear to me in the listing. All in all I had a splendid time and was very happy with my decision to stay there.

Casa Cruz es un gran lugar, es muy grande y confortable, el anfitrión y la persona que lo apoya sin educados y están al pendiente en todo momento, sin duda volvería.

El lugar fue magnífico, un espacio agradable para tomarse un tiempo a solas o con alguien más sin los ruidos o molestias que a veces se presentan en la ciudad.

La habitacion es comoda con lo necesario para tener un buen descanso, su jardin muy lindo, ubicacion perfecta cerca de la base de urban y los propietarios muy amables, les pedí que guardaron mi maleta todo el dia y accedieron con gusto. Alojamiento bueno , bonito y barato, seguro vuelvo otra vez.

Un lugar muy bonito y muy cómodo de habitar, la persona nos ayudó en todo y siempre estuvo pendiente, contestaba muy rápido y era muy atento, una persona nos visitó para ver cómo estábamos y si necesitábamos algo

Muy buena estancia, atención y facilidades, recomendable para quien necesite donde descansar después de un día de trabajo.

Fue una estancia agradable, las habitaciones, baño, cocina y salas muy limpias y la atención muy servicial.

Ameno alojamiento, muy buena atención y el lugar muy bien equipado para lo que se pueda ocupar, totalmente recomendable :)
