Excellent breakfasts. Crowded during RV season, and service can be slow. But the staff is sincere and the food is among the best in town.

New this year to PT, Quench has quickly found community love for the freshness and quality of its ingredients and its professional service. The burger is excellent and the menu -- though short -- is tightly focused and well-executed. Spectacular view; nice deck.

A pretty room and a nice menu, Silverwater is as close as P T comes to "fine dining." The chef is good and service is very good. Great desserts.

Way in the back, there is an old-fashioned lunchroom counter, staffed by a group of delightful ladies who will call you hon whether you want that or not. You're not there for the food, but order yourself a milkshake from the very long list of flavors and ask for whipped cream on top. There haven't been milkshakes like this since 1958 and they are worth every single calorie. Delicious!

Drinks & Nightlife

A warm, cozy and sophisticated bar with very good tapas and bar food. The French onion soup is very good as is the Croque Monsieur and the charcuterie plate. This place attracts a lot of regulars from town, but the vibe is warm fellowship and travelers are enthusiastically welcomed.

Port Townsend's liveliest bar and the food is terrific, too. There is always a fun evening to be had with karoke, live music and sharp DJs in constant rotation. But you can also have a great lunch in peace and quiet while staring at the water if you like. Try the angel hair pasta with coconut milk, the chowder and the shrimp tacos.

Good ever-changing exhibits on Port Townsend's colorful history. Well-curated bookshop and the building itself is fascinating and worth a guided tour.

The exhibit changes each month and most months the show is excellent. Northwind presents the full range of artists' work -- not just painting but mixed media, collage and assemblage, sculpture and jewelry. Prices are realistic but the gallery is a very pleasant afternoon just for viewing.
