My best food tip for Nydalen area (a nice 10-15 min walk) is this Asian fusion crossover. “Crispy duck” is of course a favourite, but the menu has many temptations. A bit pricy, but worth it.

Parks & Nature
The statues of Vigeland here is a must-see. To me, they appear different as light changes. I love to see them off-peak, when light is different and it’s not so busy, like in the evenings or winter-time. And then you have the big park, perfect for a piknik.

If you have just a few minutes extra on the way to the city Centre or back, do walk along Akerselva river! Quiet, nice views, many stops for food or culture. It is also a good options for a stroll upwards towards the forest. Much of Oslo and Norways industry and workers history starts here.

Sightseeing
You may not be a fan of the Opera, but a visit to - or rather up ON - the Oslo Opera house is a good idea. Wether as a stop on a walk along the seafront, which I really recommend, or as a single destination. It is a nice walk on the roof there, with good view to both older an newer parts of the city. How to get there? Just take the bus down to the railway station (Oslo S) and walk through the station.
