In December 1988 Ron Harrington purchased an aging little tavern called The Depot Bar. He later re-opened it as a Hi-NRG Dance Club catering to the LGBT community. This was the first bar in Michigan to cater to gays north of Grand Rapids. The rest, as they say, is history! Throughout the years Side Traxx has welcomed people of all walks of life, gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and straight. The bar’s motto is “Not Just a Gay Bar! Gay, Straight or Bi, Everyone’s Welcome!”.

(The dress code is simply “clothes.”) The Cooks’ House retains a high staff-to-guest ratio so that diners are never wanting for comfort, and atmosphere is relaxed and social with tables trading conversation.
