Magnificent view on the Dordogne. It is just up Cénac. Lots of touristy shops, but interesting caves, and a couple of good restaurants.

The village you will find on postcards, tourist guides, table mats... but well worth it and only 10 minutes from Cénac et Saint Julien.

Again an incredible castle, which served as a setting for many films among which 'Les visiteurs', 'Joan of Arc'. 15 minutes drive from Cénac.

My favourite. A troglodytic castle, inhabited for around 10 000 years - until last century. Open to the public only a few years ago, so it is still little known and very under estimated.

one of the numerous 'bastides' in the region, i.e. cities built either by the English or the French during the XIIIth and XIVth century, to mark their presence and their leadership. Hence the many advantages generally granted to the new settlers. Monpazier is listed as one of the most beautiful French villages.

Stunning, but to avoid the flood of tourists, try to make it early or late in the season, or if in the summer, early in the morning or late evening.

Arts & Culture

The Mecca of prehistory. Will make you understand you are no more modern than your ancestors tens or hundreds of thousands years ago. Dwarfs on the shoulders of giants.

Ok, 25 000 years back, they did not have Iphones. But they did have incredible artists. Why should they paint signs and scenes at the far end of caves they did not dwell in? Your Iphone has no answer to that...
