‘love food’ is a deli-style cafe where you can come to enjoy food that is freshly made every day. It’s a wonderful alternative to the traditional; fast food and mass – produced supermarket – ready meals as it’s deliciously tasty, healthy and wholesome. It’s the kind of food you’d love to cook at home, but never find the time to. Pop in and sit down or get your favourite meal to go! Our colourful harvest table is on display everyday. The food is put out at 11.30am and it is usually cleared by 2.30pm. So make sure to come early to avoid disappointment! We have created a ‘homely’ environment at love food, so please come ready to share a table with other guests, help yourself to food and generally just be happy:)

he brainchild of property development group, Propertuity, Maboneng has a humble beginning at Fox Street’s Arts on Main. A core focus on the arts evolved into expanding boundaries, and incorporating new developments like the Work & Art Building and Maboneng’s flagship accommodation and hotel development, Hallmark House. From fine restaurants and entertainment venues, retail stores and art galleries, to The Bioscope, South Africa's only independent cinema, Maboneng is a neighbourhood celebrated through art, with its finger firmly on the pulse of big business. Office and light industrial space is being utilised by companies looking to expand their footprint in the city and surrounds.

The Market Theatre, founded in Johannesburg in 1976 by Mannie Manim and the late Barney Simon, was constructed out of Johannesburg’s Indian Fruit Market - built in 1913. The theatre went on to become internationally renowned as South Africa’s “Theatre of the Struggle”. The Market Theatre challenged the apartheid regime, armed with little more than the conviction that culture can change society. The strength and truth of that conviction was acknowledged in 1995 when the theatre received the American Jujamcyn Award. In providing a voice to the voiceless, The Market Theatre did not forego artistic excellence, but, rather, made a point of it. Its twenty-one international and over three hundred South African theatre awards bears eloquent testimony to the courage and artistic quality of its work.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Orbit concept finds its roots and spirit in a small Jazz Social Club established in Troyeville, Johannesburg, in the early 2000’s by Aymeric Péguillan and 3 other partners. Peg’s Cosy Corner, as the venue was called, presented an intimate environment where musicians and jazz aficionados would hang around to listen to occasional live music and recordings till late at night around a drink. Twelve years later, a venue is reborn in Braamfontein, a booming and dynamic part of town, where Péguillan and his 2 partners, Dan Sermand & Kevin Naidoo, developed a concept that would lead the way in offering the best possible creative expression platform for jazz musicians in Johannesburg. After months of intense brainstorming, consultations with musicians and negotiations with stakeholders around the nature of the new venture, The Orbit, a Live Music venue and Bistro, finally came to life.

The interior is so dark and the courtyard so crowded you'll barely notice the many quirky details such as the floor plastered in five-cent coins and the DJ booth built with old briefcases. But no doubt you will be too busy dancing with your new best friends to care. The music policy depends on the DJ and can be anything from the hottest electro to 1980s power ballads. After 9pm expect a queue and a cover charge.

Bannister Bar: Maybe it's the abundant palms and succulents, or perhaps it's the whir of the ceiling fans and the fresh breeze wafting in through the wide open windows, but there's something almost tropical about the atmosphere at this friendly and attractive bar. With a little stretch of the imagination you could be looking out over the shores of Maputo, rather than the lively streets of downtown Joburg. They have craft beer on tap and a live music space in the basement.

Sharp looking joint with a great terrace for people-watching, set-up for fans of complex cocktails, craft beer, cool design and good music. The menu and vibe is upmarket and sophisticated making this a more grown-up, but not less diverse, alternative to Braamfontein's many great student-orientated bars.
