Good food, very family friendly. Service is generally good and the staff friendly. It's a big place so they're more likely than some to be able to fit you in at weekends too, even at relatively late notice.

We are fond of this place as it's totally unpretentious and reliable. It serves simple European dishes - mostly traditional and everything is well cooked and tasty. Also it is reasonably priced. The drinks are good, particularly their delicious smoothies. It can be busy so try and avoid 1-2pm if aiming for lunch on Saturdays/Sundays. However the turn around is fairly swift and they have quite a few tables.

Parks & Nature

One of our favourite places. Beautiful, romantic and slightly eerie; Abney Park is one of the ‘magnificent seven’ C19th garden cemeteries of London. It's also a woodland memorial park and Local Nature Reserve. There are over 200,000 people laid to rest in Abney Park Cemetery, from world-famous names such as William Booth to relatively unsung heroes, such as Betsi Cadwaladr who, aged over 60, worked as a nurse alongside Florence Nightingale in the Crimea War. Access into the park cemetary is free throughout the year.

Very pretty, 54 acre park which features a few lakes, a cute mini zoo in its centre with rabbits, chickens, goats and deer. (The butterfly tunnel and aviary next door are also open, but only sporadically - check times). Also includes a cafe in the delightful C18th Clissold House and a children's adventure playground.

Walthamstow Marsh Nature Reserve, Coppermill Fields and Leyton Marsh are all part of this Green Flag award-winning site in the Lea Bridge area. The reserve is one of the few remaining pieces of London’s once widespread river valley grasslands. There are plenty of paths to choose from when you explore this nature-filled unspoilt area by bike or on foot. The marsh is just behind the canal (which offers another walking option too) - you can access the marsh and the canal via Springfield Park.

A peaceful park, often less busy than Clissold Park, the higher end has some nice vegetation and undulates slightly. The lower end has tennis courts and joins up to the canal, and across the canal is the beginning of Walthamstow Marshes. There is a small cafe at the top end of the park.

An unusual place. As we're interested in London's history, we loved this house. Dennis Severs' House in Folgate Street is a "still-life drama" created by the previous owner as an "historical imagination" of what life would have been like inside for a family of Huguenot silk weavers from 1724 to the start of the 20th century.

To explore the way people lived over the last 400 years a series of period rooms lead visitors on a walk through time from 17th century oak furniture and panelling, past muted Georgian elegance and eclectic Victorian style, to 20th century modernity and contemporary living. These rooms are complemented by a sequence of period gardens and a walled herb garden which illustrate the role of the garden in home life and how domestic gardens have changed over time. The Geffrye is a much-loved gem in the lively and creative Hoxton area. The museum also has a decent cafe and shop. FREE entry.
