Открытое пространство Каньона Красной Скалы

A must-see (Red Rock Canyon is similar, but more friendly for hiking). I think the best route is to go west on Colorado Ave. toward Manitou and take Ridge Rd. (instead of going through the main entrance on 30th St.). The views are even more spectacular in that direction!

Food Scene

A few blocks from the house, low key, great French Onion soup and croissants (everything there is pretty good).

Mexican food in Manitou Springs. The food isn't as great as Hacienda Colorado, but it's a local hang out and the setting is terrific, right in the heart of Manitou (be sure to look for the mineral springs - there are several fountains of mineral water around the area).

Wonderful restaurant that's been celebrated for decades - it has a great atmosphere and top-quality food. They use local products when they can. From their website, their style is " 'Comfortably Contemporary Cuisine,' meaning we take recognizable, fresh ingredients and use them in innovative ways with a traditional background."

Arts & Culture

It's been years since I've been there, but they have all the cool artifacts from Colorado Springs' history. Don't miss the Van Briggle room! And I believe it's still free admission.

If you want to spend some time in the mountains, the ride to Cripple Creek is beautiful and this history center is amazing. There are not only displays about dinosaurs and the history of the region in mining, but they also have a very cool mineral and gem collection. It's free, too.

Colorado Springs' fine arts museum. It's a beautiful little museum with a nice restaurant that features all types of art: Native American and Hispanic, Modern American, European, and Colorado artists. The art center also holds an award-winning theater that features musicals, comedies, dramas, and special events by world-renowned comedians.

Shopping

The city's best indoor antique & collectibles market. It's HUGE, and there are items there for everyone, no matter what their interests are. It's just fun to look around, even if you don't want to buy anything as they have a lot of fascinating items like old slot machines and vending machines, taxidermy, etc. - items from almost every era.

I like to go here - it's small, they have unique items, and they carry high quality, non GMO foods (under the store label, which most items are). The customer service and atmosphere is the best!

This is a small grocery store/meat market featuring all local meats, eggs, produce, etc. The meat is best quality available - we all know the rancher and his cattle are grass fed, no antibiotics, no hormones. Once we tried this food we never went back to the regular grocery store for meat.

This is where we usually shop for essentials like clothes, dish detergent, etc., although there is a Walmart closer, on 8th St., if that's your preferred store.

Entertainment & Activities

Our favorite theater (others are just as good, but this is the closest). Huge, and showing the most popular movies. A Target and some chain restaurants are close by.

A small but fun downtown theater from the early years (1950s?) that shows more artsy, small budget movies, and they have real butter on the popcorn. It's very close by and they serve wine. Also close to La Baguette downtown and Springs Orleans (same block).

Sightseeing

It's a scary drive for some of us (me!), but the road is fine and it's an amazing experience feeling like you're "on top of the world."

Another way to get to Pikes Peak - it's expensive but worth it for the sites and the fact that you don't have to white-knuckle it with the drive and can just sit back and enjoy the views! You also learn about the plants and animals on the way up and you're sure to meet a few interesting tourists as they come here from all over the world.
