This is a 12th Century church - Church of Scotland. Look out for the "Loupin on stane" outside that was used by Gentlemen to re-mount their horses after attending Kirk.

The whole of Edinburgh is built around Edinburgh Castle, so it's pretty much impossible to come here without noticing it. It's an imposing and impressive structure built on an extinct volcano, and makes for great pictures from the outside, and great views from inside the ramparts. Make sure you're there for the one o'clock gun - the firing of a cannon daily to mark one o'clock.

The most famous dog in Edinburgh! Bobby became famous for standing by his master's grave following his death. He was buried in the adjacent Greyfriar's Kirk cemetery, and after the story of his loyalty became stuff of legend, this statue was erected in his honour.

Visible from the apartment, St Anthony's Chapel ruins make for a beautiful view to wake up for and very atmospheric first thing in the morning, or when the sun is setting. The main railway station in the heart of the city. Easiest access to the station from Queens Park Apartments is via Calton Road although there are a few steps to climb using this route.

If you are interested in doing a whisky distillery tour, the Glenkinchie distillery is perfect. It's just 20 minutes drive from the apartment, and aside from being the closest distillery to Edinburgh, it also produces great single malts. Tours can be arranged from various tour operators, based on the Royal Mile, or you can drive there yourself...Just make sure you've agreed who's going to be the designated driver!

Great bar and restaurant. The food is great, and the bar tenders make amazing cocktails off the cuff. Hard to find, but this adds to the charm. Look out for the fairy light tunnel from the Royal Mile!

If you're passing by, it's well worth a look at their amazing range of cakes and tray bakes. One of my favourite restaurants a 20 minute walk through the park. Contemporary decor and modern Scottish food. Haggis, Venison and black pudding often on the menu. Good portion sizes and value.

An old bank that has been turned into an incredibly opulent bar. Great for lunch, drinks or coffee at surprisingly reasonable prices. Well worth checking out.

We've been hearing great thing about this bar, although yet to go. Great atmosphere and great range of whiskies by all accounts. It's tucked away down one of Edinburgh's closes, which adds to the fun!
