Between Valby and Frederiksberg, near Vesterbro, you find Søndermarken – one of Copenhagen’s many parks offering space and beautiful nature. Here you find wild plants, long meadow-like grass and even owls in the old trees. The locals use Søndermarken for jogging, walking the dog or just strolling in the hilly and forest filled landscape. You can also visit the playground with your children or experience the cisterns that used to be water basins supplying clean water to the Copenhageners.

At the end of the street you find Sønder Boulevard. It got a serious facelift in 2007, which resulted in a long, green belt with endless possibilities for activities for all ages. The goal with the makeover was to create an attractive and green city space on Vesterbro. The mission proved highly succesful as the boulevard today is one of Vesterbro's most popular recreational areas and hang out spots filled with shopping and great cafés. There are playgrounds, artificial grass for ball games and a field with asphalt for biking, etc. The strip stretching from one end to the other compose a perfect area for kids to run and play.

Frederiksberg Palace lies on top of Frederiksberg Hill overlooking the beautiful Frederiksberg Garden in the Copenhagen district of Frederiksberg. The palace dates back to the early 1700's and is inspired by the Italian style at the time. King Frederik 4 used Frederiksberg Palace as a summer palace, while King Christian 6 lived there permanently, while Christiansborg Palace was completed. King Christian 7 was born at Christiansborg Palace 29 January 1749 and lived in the first half of his life at Christiansborg with his young wife Queen Caroline Mathilde. In 1768 Queen Caroline Mathilde gave birth to the king's son, the future King Frederik 6. The royal family left Frederiksberg Palace in 1852. In 1869 the Royal Danish Army Officers Academy moved in. There are guided tours at Frederiksberg Castle on the last Saturday of each month. You can visit Frederiksberg Castle's website for more information about guided tours for groups.

At the port areas, you will find everything from yachts to harbour baths to top attractions, and year round the areas host various events. Inderhavn Inderhavn or Inner Harbour - as it translates - extends from Nordre Toldbod to Langebro. Try Toldbodens Harbour Eatery & Bar's organic brunch. As the name suggests, Inderhavn is the most central part of Copenhagen Harbour. This is where the canal tours sail, and where you will find famous attractions such as The Little Mermaid, Amalienborg and Gefionspringvandet. Inderhavn also includes Nyhavn, an area famous and infamous for its many pubs. The Royal Opera, The Royal Danish Playhouse and the Royal Libray - The Black Diamond - also resides in the area. Sydhavnen Sydhavnen - or South Habour - is the southernmost part of the waterfront and an area which has gotten a significant boost in the past years. The Islands Brygge harbour bath is located just south of Langebro and is therefore part of Sydhavnen. Every Summer a large number of water-loving locals and tourists enjoy a swim in the clean harbour bath. In 2011 the area got another harbour bath when Koralbadet opened. Shopping Centre Fisketorvet is also located in Sydhavnen, as well as Sluseholmen and the allotment area Nokken. Nordhavn Nordhavn is situated close to Østerbro. The harbour is Europe's largest urban development project where a whole new city area is being developed. Today Nordhavnen offers many diverse experiences. For example there is the old fishing port, where you can be lucky to buy freshly caught fish early in the morning. Bring cash. Docken is an old storage hall, but today it is used to host a cafe, concerts, theatrical performances, parties and much more. Svanemøllen Marina is Denmark's largest marina and also home to Cafe Sundet, where you can enjoy good food and a great view of Øresund. DFDS Terminal is also located in Nordhavnen. This is where the cruises to Oslo begin and end, as well as other larger cruises.

Especially during summer, Nyhavn is the perfect place to end a long day. With a cold one on the quay like the locals, or at one of the many restaurants. Originally, Nyhavn was a busy commercial port where ships from all over the world would dock. The area was packed with sailors, ladies of pleasure, pubs and alehouses. Today the beautiful old houses have been renovated and restaurants dominate the old port. Nyhavn is filled with people enjoying the relaxed atmosphere by the canal, jazz music and great food.

At Langelinje Pier you will find one of Copenhagen's most famous tourist attractions: The sculpture of The Little Mermaid. 23 August 2013 she turned 100 years old. Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. The sculpture is made of bronze and granite and was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land. Every morning and evening she swims to the surface from the bottom of the sea and, perched on her rock in the water, she stares longingly towards the shore hoping to catch a glimpse of her beloved prince.

Different, vibrant, relaxed and lively. Walking down Istedgade, you will experience a different and exciting side of Copenhagen where all kinds of people hang out - students, hipsters, families with children, etc. For many years, Istedgade was dominated by drugs, porn and prostitutes, but today the street has cleaned somewhat up, but luckily not too much, and is booming with shops, cafées, restaurants and bars. Istedgade stretches from Copenhagen Central Station to Enghave Plads and is not far from the Meatpacking District and Halmtorvet, where you will never be bored.

Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen is a must for all visitors to the city, young and old. Tivoli is located just a few minutes’ walk from City Hall, and with the Copenhagen Central Station as its nearest neighbour it is very easy to get to. Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843 and has become a national treasure and an international attraction. Fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen visited many times, as did Walt Disney who even found the inspiration to his own Disney World here. Part of Tivoli Gardens' secret is that there is something for everyone. The scenery is beautiful with exotic architecture, historic buildings and lush gardens. At night, thousands of coloured lights create a fairy tale atmosphere that is completely unique. The rides are all designed to match Tivoli's architecture and gardens. Some rides are wonderfully nostalgic. Others will match the expectations of the keenest thrill seekers, e.g. the Vertigo which will turn you upside down at 100 km/h and was voted Europe’s Best Ride in 2014.

Strøget is Copenhagen's aorta and one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops, from budget-friendly chains to some of the world's most expensive brands. At some point during your stay in the city, you will without a doubt end of here. The 1,1-kilometre stretch covers the streets Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet and Østergade and runs from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv square. Strøget is most famous for shopping. Big international brands like Prada, Max Mara, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry are represented at the end of the street facing up to Kongens Nytorv. If your budget is a little tighter, you will find shops like H&M, Vero Moda and Zara closer to City Hall Square. Strøget is more than shopping, however. Look up and down the side streets during your shopping spree, and you will see several of Copenhagen's beautiful sights and attractions as well as street entertainers. We also recommend our street guides to Strædet, Pilestræde and Larsbjørnsstræde in central Copenhagen.
