Chesters has a great range of carefully selected wines. The real bonus is that you can pull up a table and open a bottle to enjoy. Bring your own food if you are hungry!

Robb and Nicola Merchant opened their vineyard around ten years ago and since then have developed an amazing range of award-winning Welsh wines. The Cellar is open at weekends for tasting tours and it is easy to settle in! Don't miss the pinot noir - it is incredible.

Sightseeing

Real fairytale castle with four towers, a drawbriedge and a moat. Just fifteen minutes walk from the Cart House, this is a really interesting spot for a picnic or just to take in the view.

Llanthony Priory is a splendid ruined monastery in an unrivalled setting in the heart of the Black Mountains. Go there to walk, drink (there is a pub in the ruins), or hang out with a picnic. A truly beautiful place and a real highlight.

Parks & Nature

Iconic local mountain that provides the backdrop to sunset from the Cart House. Legend has it that the end of the hill was struck off by a thunderbolt on the day of the crucifixion. Worth a walk up whatever - the views are amazing.

Shopping

Abergavenny has great local and independent shops, as well a range of supermarkets (Waitrose, Morrisons, Tesco and Aldi). The town market (Tues, Fri, Sat) is a great place for fresh fish, veg and cheese, as well as lots of eccentric non-edibles.

Entertainment & Activities

The Cart House is mid-way between Bike Park Wales and the Forest of Dean, making it a great centre for mountain bikers. There are lots of green lanes around the farm and close by and we can offer a bike wash and secure storage.
