Parks & Nature

it's just round the corner and there are brilliant places for kids to explore and play. You can jog round it, meet local dogwalkers, find the local forest playgroup making mud pies... and build yourself a den! Also good for barbecues and picnics on a summer evening.

this is a great way to walk into town if you want to avoid the roads - and also great for cycling and jogging. You can join the walkway about 5 mins from the flat, and then walk into Kelvingrove Park (try and spot the kingfisher, or the pair of goosanders). You can then walk through the park and into town.

Awesome place to visit. It has 38 islands within it, and it's HUGE! The west side is easier - Luss is lovely, but the eastern side is harder to get to - Balmaha and Rowardennan

Food Scene

Great food and a lovely bar - informal on the ground floor, smarter downstairs. Fantastic haggis neeps and tatties if you've never tried them. And loads of other great dishes often with a global twist

the décor is functional (formica and strip lighting) but the food is authentic and fantastic! The dumplings are brilliant. The alcohol is limited in range (if you ask for wine, they say 'red or white?'!)

Drinks & Nightlife

It's a converted church, it's been beautifully converted and it's got a whisky bar. And it doesn't play music. What more could you want? Oh, there is a nightclub downstairs in the basement if your night goes that way... it's cheesy but who cares?

This is a great brewery (and bar), brewing to the German Purity Law standards here in Glasgow – you can get their beer at a number of bars. But the main brewery has a lovely bar restaurant serving German food - and it's in a stunning building

OK, this is actually a very upmarket and expensive restaurant, but don't bother eating here. Go for a cocktail and enjoy the amazing art deco interior. Old school luxury.

Arts & Culture

All Glasgow museums are free, although closed on Mondays, but Kelvingrove is a fantastic building with a lovely, slightly motley collection of exhibits, furniture and paintings. The organist plays a recital at lunchtimes, and it's a lovely place to spend a quiet hour or two. Plus it's surrounded by Kelvingrove Park so a walk through the park and along the Kelvin river is always a nice way to get there.

Sightseeing

If you want to see some Charles Rennie Mackintosh then obviously there are some fantastic buildings and museums that will do you proud, but Queens Cross Church is just round the corner (corner of Garscube Road and Maryhill Road), and is usually open at the weekend if you want to pop in for a look-see – and of course it’s lovely.

Glasgow University is only a short walk away (along Byres Road and up University Avenue) and it’s a beautiful building, and open to the public. You can walk through the cloisters, there’s a great view over the city from out the back of the main building, plus there are some nice museums within it.

Entertainment & Activities

The Intu Soar centre has an indoor snow slope, a climbing wall and an aerial adventure course. There’s bowling, laser quest, a cinema and a games arcade. Not cheap, but loads to keep everyone happy under one roof.
