The Old Man of the Mountain has been an icon for the state of New Hampshire for many years. Even despite it’s fall in 2003, the Old Man of the Mountain remains an iconic symbol for the State of NH. The image of the Old Man of the Mountain remains New Hampshire state emblem to this day. The Old Man of the Mountain sat 1,200 feet above Profile Lake at the base of Cannon Mountain and was 40′ tall by 25 feet wide. Daniel Webster, a New Hampshire native wrote a tribute to the Old Man of the Mountain: “Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoe makers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there he makes men.”

Swimming

The Baker River Bridge offers the perfect roadside swimming hole. There is a gorgeous waterfall with clear emerald water, and large sloping rocks. The falls are by Route 118, with a parking area on the other side of a small wooden bridge. There are multiple easy paths to water, and even some stone steps. There is swimming under the bridge, but please don’t jump from the bridge. People were jumping off the rocks into a deep clear pool close to the bridge. There are multiple smaller pools and falls before it opens into a medium sized pool, that is fairly shallow.

Alpine Adventures, located in the beautiful White Mountains of NH, near the award-winning Whale’s Tale Water-park, opened the first, longest, highest and fastest Zip line Canopy Tour in New England in 2006 and continues to lead the way in the outdoor adventure industry. The original Tree Top Canopy Tour was an instant hit and continues to be a favorite for families and first-time zippers. With 300 private acres in Woodstock, NH, it was no time before Alpine expanded by building the Sky Rider and Super Sky Rider Zip-line Tours. To keep our tours safe, new, and exciting, Alpine constantly adjusts the courses and plans new routes. Continually raising the bar for Zip lining…with longer, higher lines, side-by-side racing zips and more. In addition, in 2015, Alpine built their first Tree-house, a magnificent work of art offering a welcome rest stop for many tours.
