Food scene

This is my favorite bar in town and is walkable from the house. It is best for beer. They have a nice patio and good indoor seating. I recommend ordering food from Scolari's next door. They have great burgers, fries, pizza, etc and will deliver to the bar.

Go here for a unique experience eating Burmese. This is a destination restaurant, but not too hard to get into. I highly recommend the tea leaf salad as a great dish you don't see other places, but everything is great.

This is a little collection of stores. The is a great bakery. Try any of their savory or sweet treats. We like the cheese sticks for a savory treat (they rotate daily) and all of their sweets are amazing. There is also a great butcher. It's all high-end cuts and organic/natural. They make their own sausages, have special cuts around the holidays, and really know their stuff. If you like steak, try the onglet (also known as a hangar). The wine shop is good for cheese and wine. Ask for a recommendation. There are some good local wineries. There's also a good little produce mart. You can find the basics here. If you don't make it to Burma Superstar, consider buying the tea leaf salad kit in the refrigerated section and making it at home. It is just as good.

You can find a variety of food trucks here Saturdays at 11am. They are all good. I recommend checking out Senor Sisig, a Filipino street food meets Mexican experience. Their burritos are great, and if you like San Diego-style burritos (with fries) they do that too.

This is a pretty unique Alameda experience. Great for older folks to see machines they haven't seen in decades, and for kids to see how we old folks used to roll.

If you like booze, St George makes some very interesting spirits. They became famous for their Hangar One vodka (it's an airplane hangar), but today make all sorts of interesting and unique spirits.

Alameda is one of the best places to learn to kite board or kite surf. The bay creates great conditions and there is just the right amount of wind most days. If you have ever wanted to learn, you can do so here.
