The Cedars of God, located in the Kadisha Valley of Bsharre, Lebanon, are one of the last vestiges of the extensive forests of the Lebanon cedar that anciently thrived across Mount Lebanon. The Cedars are one of Lebanon’s most beautiful nature reserves and home to the oldest Cedar Forest. The area used to be an immense forest of cedars, cypresses, pines, and oaks. Deforestation started in 3000 BC when wood was used for vessels, constructions, and mummification. Attempts to protect the forest began in the second century, yet deforestation continued.
