This is my favorite restaurant! It is 40 steps from the house and has a fresh daily updated menu. It is a very popular spot though with constant lines. Should the wait be long they will take orders to go, just skip the line and flag an employee for a take away order.

For fine dining don’t look for anything other than Marmalade. The perfect ambiance and a fantastic menu, just a few steps from Plaza Colón and the historic Teatro Tapia.

Sightseeing

A stroll down the Princess Promenade is a must! It is a completely different vibe and experience during the day and at night, if possible plan routes that get you there twice so you can experience it. Most weekends the entrance is lined up with local artisans selling their creations.

These are the old Spanish barracks. Beautiful building with a great museum on the second floor, free on weekends, and a couple coffee shops and bars on the first floor. It is beautifully lit at night.

Of the two spanish castles, El Morro is the larger and more popular in general. The entrance alone, in front of a massive grass lawn, makes it worthy of a visit. Full of historical artifacts and great views of the bay and old city.

This is the castle that greets you as you enter the old city. It is imposing with its large walls and multiple levels. It is my favorite given it’s high ground views.

The official house of the governor of Puerto Rico, it was initially slated to be the first fortification for the city. Given its location too far into the bay that plan was quickly abandoned. Don’t miss the opportunity to book a tour of it ahead of arriving to San Juan. Even locals don’t know this UNESCO World Heritage Site is open for visits.
