Not actually in the village of Dinton, the Hermit is actually about a 20 minute walk or five minute drive in the village of Ford. A lovely patio garden for summer alfresco dining or a charming traditional pub/ restaurant with a menu that includes locally sourced ingredients. Booking is a must at weekends.

The Crown is in the pretty village of Cuddington is about a five minute drive from Dinton .It has been recently taken over by new owners and has got very positive reviews locally. There is a lovely circular walk to the village of Nether Winchendon from just beyond the pub and it’s a sweet place to stop off for a drink or meal. The village also has a small village shop.

Venturing to the lovely market town of Thame offers quite a bit if dining choice and a local favourite is part of the White pub( Raymond Blancs group of pubs) group, The Black Horse. This pub has a choice of snugs if you fancy something a bit more intimate or the large barn at the rear of the building if you are meeting friends or just fancy a bit more bustle. The menu is varied and their cheese soufflé a favourite! Definitely needs to be booked in advance. Blackhorsethame.com

A great farm shop and in season pick your own asparagus and fruit. They have a super Cafe and open out of season in late November/ early December with a lovely Christmas shop full of beautifully curated locally produced gifts. Well worth including on a trip to or from Oxford. Another side trip from here either with or without a dog is Otmoor bird sanctuary . A great place to wile a away a few hours at any time of year, but during spring and autumn the Murmurations of the migrating birds is truly a sight to behold. Located near the lovely village of Beckley a bonus extra is the super Abingdon Arms pub. A great place for Sunday lunch after a long walk around the bird reserve. NB- you can only bring dogs to certain parts of the reserve, so if you want the full “ornithology”experience maybe not one for you, but we have had a super couple of walks around the outskirts of the reserve with ours, so not impossible. About 5 miles from Dinton is Orchard View Farm and farm shop. Very good for essential provisions and home produced pork. They also bake their own cakes and quiches. Check out their website as they have an on-site pizza oven and rotisserie and often have pizza and roasted chicken available to take home. Orchardviewfarm.co.uk

The gorgeous High street with its idyllic thatched houses is what sets this village apart. There are lovely walks beyond the Courthouse( pictured) across the fields, past the stunning Notley Abbey, the former home of Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. Come back via the farm and pop into XT brewery ( check website for opening times) and pick up a couple of bottles and then back across the fields. Pop into the 8 Bells pub for a post walk thirst quencher or The Churchill Arms where there is a great Thai restaurant.

Our lovely local town is Thame. As already mentioned there is a great range of pubs and restaurants in Thame, plus a great range of local and independent shops and cafes - Whats Cooking is a lovely Artisan cafe and shop in the town centre and Black Goo serves wonderful cakes and their veggie breakfast is fab. The Tuesday market here is always bustling and the farmers market is the second Tuesday of every month. There is a great little local museum and the brilliant Phoenix Trail( cycling and walking path to Princes Risborough) starts in the town.
