Llansteffan Castle occupies a steeply side promontory overlooking the mouth of the River Towy. The castle was built in the early twelfth century, initially in the form of an earth and timber ringwork. Throughout the medieval period it regularly changed hands as the Anglo-Normans and Welsh vied for control which prompted regular upgrades to the structure. It is an easy walk from the car park by the beach. The beach is fantastic and there is a cafe for ice lollies or refreshments and a fish and chip van too.

These unique gold mines are set amid wooded hillsides overlooking the beautiful Cothi Valley. Gold mines that have been in use from Roman times to the 20th century 2,000 years ago, the powerful Romans left behind glimpses of their gold-mining methods. The harsh mining environment continued in the 19th and 20th centuries, ending in 1938. The excellent guided tours take you back to experience the conditions underground in the Roman and Victorian workings (tour routes may vary throughout the season). The 1930's Mine Yard contains buildings and mining machinery, dating from that time. There is a lot of walking and climbing to do so you have to be pretty fit to be able to explore the mines.
