Antipastos is a great, locally-owned Italian deli. They have a great sandwich counter, and hot food selections. They have the BEST ravioli in the valley, great steaks, and prime rib on Thursdays. Always great beers on tap, and a huge selection in bottles.

This local historic landmark dates to 1936. It's iconic Giant Orange roadside stand structure designed by Frank E. Pohl, was part of a nationwide chain in the 20s & 30s. They have a great variety of hot dogs, good fries, and excellent root beer floats. You can even still get car-hop service!

This is the go-to local pizza spot. Opened in 1993 by an Italian family who had recently moved here, everything is hand-made, to old family recipes. You can dine in, take out, or they deliver.

This fine farm-to-table restaurant was completely refurbished in 2015, and features many items from their own farm right across the street! As if great food wasn't enough, this place lives up to it's name. Just a few short miles from our house, this restaurant has the most amazing views of the Bay Area of any restaurant we know. There is no place better to enjoy the sunset with a fantastic meal, an appetizer & cocktail, or desert & a glass of wine. The food is great, and the view spectacular! They usually have a jazz trio playing in the lounge area, and even hold special music events from time to time. Not cheap, but a very nice treat during your stay here.

Sightseeing
Built in the late 1800s on top of Mount Hamilton, this was the largest telescope in North America at the time. It's a windy 19-mile drive (takes about 45 minutes), but the history, and views are worth it. You can see the entire Bay Area, Monterey Bay, and on clear days, you can see all the way to Yosemite National Park to the East. They do tours several times each day. There is a small gift shop on site, and they have tables for picnicking.

This huge park is just up the road from us. There are great picnic grounds, a nature center with a variety of animals, and several miles of hiking trails, from mild to strenuous. many of the trails have amazing views of the city. Alum Rock Park is full of wildlife and interesting native plants.
