We go in the summer months and it’s great - and often do lunch in Helmsley too. Can book online, poolside seating, pool is heated. Run as a charity; pool area has been recently renovated, changing rooms are basic.

Hidden gem. Rocky beach cove when tide is out. Very steep walk down the road from the hill top car park, cafe at bottom. When the tide is out you can walk around the headland to Robin Hoods bay or there is a cliff top walk option. Check tide times!

One of the beaches we go to as it’s one of the closest. Park on the road or in the surf shop field (for a price) and take the steep path down to the beach. Dogs allowed. Check surf times as the beach mostly goes at high tide.

Waterfall in Goathland. A steep walk down, lovely cafe at the trailhead by the Mallyan spout hotel. You can shower under it on a hot day! Follow the path past the fall and back up the hill then left back to the hotel.

Park on the Esplanade at the top and walk down through the gardens to the beach directly below the Spa building. Farrers is good for alfresco coffee with a sea view.

It's our go-to walk/pub combo in the summer months. Sinnington is a pretty village with a stream through its centre that our kids love paddling in - historic too - family home of Catherine Parr, one of Henry VIII wives.
