This is a local funky favorite. We love the Brian's bowl, either al pastor, fish, or of course carnitas. They also have great vegetarian options. Be prepared for a line or get there early!

Everyone goes to Salt and Straw. This one is walkable and it has a giant sign on the window that says NOT ICECREAM. I think they mean it's better, richer and creamier than icecream, which is not to be argued with. Just a small scoop and you'll be in heaven. They also have signature flavors that are very unique, all inspired by Italy, it sems.

Ava Gene's is one of those 5 star type restaurants that will not disappoint. Get reservations if you can.

You might as well be in San Francisco at the original Boulangerie before it was bought out by Starbucks, or in Paris. It's got delicate French pastries. Don't expect to get a big brunch there but it's top quality and worth the experience.

This has an old Portland vibe from the early 2000s but is still relevant and wonderful. They make pie, both by the slice and full. Great tiny place worth stopping into and they are very friendly.

This neighborhood starts at your homebase and then walk or bike east and hit the small cute Clinton strip that reminds one of Amsterdam. It's completely bike friendly and lots of young hipsters hanging out. Very friendly vibe, plus you can drop in Clinton Street Records and see some great collectibles with a specialization in disco and electronic funk.
