Just at the top of the moor and then a picturesque drive past the White Horse you will enter the village of Kilburn, home of the famous Oak furniture 'Mouseman' and its showrooms. This is a family run pub with the best Sunday roasts. Our friend Mark is chef there and you won't go hungry. Excellent value, bookings advised. ££, Dogs welcome in bar area.

Andrew Pern, Michelin Star. One our favourites. Market menu at lunch time, as well as à la carte and tasting menus. No need to book in week for bar lunches, but definitely do so on the weekends. The Market menu is a changing set menu which provides a more affordable option. Gin addicts should try York Gin's Old Tom Gin which was created with the chef's at the Star Inn. £££ The Star has now reopened after a fire which gutted the place. The beams have been now constructed out of tree which fell in the gales at Duncombe Park and all the oak furniture from 'The Mouseman' at nearby at Kilburn

Good food pubs Rydale/Moors

Just up the road across the moor is Ryedale, which has some lovely pubs with excellent food.
Just round the corner from Wass is the newly opened Tommy Banks pub. Just opened in May, with opening times Thursday through Monday. You need to book well in advance for evenings, but rumour has it you can do a 'walk in' at lunchtimes. The Byeland burger is the best in the joint. Lovely garden area and dog friendly, they ask that if you do have a dog let them know in advance so they can accommodate you.

Fantastic local tea rooms and cafés

We often visit tea rooms on our travels. Here are the ones we go to. Tea rooms are part of this area's culture and there are many to choose from, so here our favourites.
Can only be accessed by foot, bike or horse. Wonderful cakes and snacks, great Sunday roasts, fun ginger dogs ( all 3 of them). Ginny and her team will make you very welcome. If staying at our property make an afternoon of it, in a circular walk from the Linen Press Studio, Nigel will direct you! Open Wednesday through Sunday. ( check web site as it isn't open early season so much.) You can drive up to car park at Snake Yat and walk fairly level path 1 mile to farm.

Main station at Pickering where you can pick up an historic steam train to the stations at Levisham, Goathland, Grosmont and Whitby on the East coast. Or you might prefer to take a short journey for a circular walk and then have tea at one of the station cafés. Make a day of it by catching an early train to Whitby and come back later for afternoon tea. Each station is reminiscent of an era, 1920s to 1950s.
