Food scene

Knowing which places are worth your time can be a challenge in any any town. It can be even more difficult in small towns. These are my favorite.
I really enjoy their food and specialty coffee drinks. The homemade soups are lovely and they have the best gluten free bread.

Nice short hike right in town. Great for taking in our breathtaking views! Head uphill on Galisteo to access the trail head.

While not great for swimming like lake Maloya that you'll pass to get here it's very secluded and peaceful. Good for fishing or just getting away.

Yep there's a national monument less than an hour away. Perfect for a quick day trip. There are not a lot of food offerings that way but that sounds like a great excuse for a picnic. *Hint* pick up some goodies at Mountain Pass Market before you go.

I believe that this lake has a swimming beach and is a great option for families. Like most things in the region you'll feel like you have the place to yourself a lot of the time.

Although swimming is not allowed there are many trails and is a great option for boating. Given the low usage of the park it's also great for kayaks, canoes and paddle boards as you will see hardly any wakes leaving you to enjoy some peaceful paddling.

This is the newest Colorado State Park and it's just 20 minutes from Raton. It's very rugged yet and quite steep. I wouldn't recommend for young families or people adverse to breathing hard. Beautiful views but you're going to have to earn them.

The Whittington Center is just 14 min (10.4 mi) via I-25 S and US-64 W from the house. It is a great place for outdoor recreation, specifically around shooting sports, and the museum in the gift shop is fabulous.

If you take Moulton towards the hill you can drive right up to the Raton sign. It's a great photo-op and fun to check out town from above.
