Mt Cooroora sits in the middle of the hinterland of Town soaring to an impressive 439 metres. The hike to the summit is challenging, but rewards climbers with a sweeping 360 degree view, including the coastal lakes and dunes of Cooloola Recreation Area. There are a number of other walking trails suited to various fitness levels including shared trails at the base of the mountain for walkers, horse riders and mountain bike riders. Be prepared, especially in hot weather with a hat, water and sunscreen, and allow adequate time to complete the walk. Suitable, sturdy footwear is recommended as the track has a loose surface and is often slippery.

The Historic Gympie Station, Tozer Street is a traditional Queensland building which has been fully restored to its former glory. Make sure you leave plenty of time to explore The Station which houses a historical display sharing stories of the Mary Valley Railway line and its people.
The Rusty Rails Café caters for all tastes and the gift shop stocks a variety of train-themed treasures and local specialty products.
Step on board one of our meticulously restored trains and travel along the tracks that have been brought back to life. Sit back, relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Mary Valley.
The journey through the Mary Valley passes through the picturesque small town of Dagun. Nestled in the centre of the Mary Valley, Amamoor is an historic town bordered by Amamoor State Forest which is home to more than 120 species of birds. Here the train will turn around on the restored turntable. You can watch this fascinating process or explore the quaint community of Amamoor.
The Classic Rattler Run is a steam train experience and departs from the historic Gympie Station.
The Mary Valley boasts wonderful food and produce celebrated on The Rattler Tasting Train, which is on board the vintage railmotor RM76 which traditionally ran the Brooloo line to Gympie providing a daily link to the town for shopping, the transportation of goods and a means for children to get to school. This fun journey to Amamoor is a great way to explore and taste the delights of our beautiful region.
Sunday features our All Stations Train, that stops at both Amamoor and Dagun Stations – a chance to experience both heritage stations, and for $5 paid to the local community group in Dagun, you can indulge in a wine tasting experience.

The Museum houses an extensive and impressive collection of photographs capturing many moments of our pioneering past as well as modern moments that will one day be an important part of local history. We also have a library of books about the Noosa Shire & newspapers dating back to the early 20th century. Visitors are welcome to look through the library, photographs and our historical records.

When the original railway station was scheduled to be demolished by Queensland Rail, community spirit rallied and the locals worked together to acquire the buildings, moving them from the railway line to its place now.
