Walking, hiking & scrambling.

Local walks and hikes for all levels that we have done ourselves. We will continue to add to these!
Beinn Nam Ban is a wonderful walk. From your doorstep, you can either walk along the shore to Kildonan Bay and then walk up from there, alternatively follow the Badrallach Road back to the hairpin bend and ascend from there. On the way up you will see why it is such a special walk. Lochs, marches and rock formations reveal themselves as you climb. When you get to the summit, you will be taken aback by the stunning panoramic views of Loch Broom and the Summer Isles on one side, and Little Loch Broom, Scoraig peninsula and the An Teallach range on the other. The magical surprise is coming across a small loch right at the top, which is in itself most unique. Allow 3 hours from the front door.

Follow the Badralloch to Scoraig footpath where you can explore one of Scotland's most remote off grid yet most thriving townships. Accessible on foot or by boat only. On your way to Scoraig pier, it is worth visiting the wee lighthouse which has interesting local information, or sit on Auntie Winnie’s bench and leave your thoughts in the notebook whilst enjoying the magnificent sea views. Leaving from your front door, allow 3 hours each way for a leisurely paced walk. Stopping along the way to take it all in.

This is a fantastic walk up to the mountain opposite from us. The views are incredible. On the way up one follows the fascinating Ardessie Falls. You can with go up on one side or the other, and switch on the way down. Gaiters are recommended for crossing the fast flowing Ardessie river above the falls. Choose your stepping stones..! If you go up on the right hand side, you can a avoid this. One to fulfil the soul.

You can walk up the hill behind, have a wild swim in the lochs above, and when you reach the top, the views surround you and literally take your breath away.

The distant roar of Ardessie falls can be heard from Bedstee as if it is calling you. You then need to go and see for yourself! And it is worth it. Park your car after the bridge and walk back on yourself to just before the bridge where the track begins. It’s a wonderful place to explore or pass through on your way up to Sail Mhor.

This was the route that was walked to go to church every Sunday up and over from Little Loch Broom to Loch Broom. Leaving from the bridge at Dundonnell, we recommend this walk for its incredible views of the surrounding area. Here wildlife, lochs and the elements are sure to greet you. Even if you don't make it all the way, the scenery changes constantly inspiring the walker to reflect on all aspects of life along the way.

Incredible views when you reach the top. 5-7 hours there and back. More if you are wanting to bag a few more Munroes along the way!

Situated north of Ullapool on your way towards Achiltibuie and Achnahaird beach, this is a beautiful hike to do. It is perfect for those who want to do a lot in a day as the climb to the top and back is around 2-3 hours. It has a well maintained trail too which makes to easy not to go the wrong way!

Sightseeing

Places to go and visit.
Why not have a seaside day. Follow the incredible single track drive towards Achiltibuie, then turn right to Achnahaird Beach for amazing sand in a beautiful tidal estuary. The geology there is amazing, rising up out of the sand and leaning over, dunes and marches behind. Lots to explore. https://goo.gl/maps/ZnPaw3MfeCG5NyL29

Gruinard Bay is easily missed when driving along the NC500 towards Gairloch. It is worth slowing down, pulling over, getting out and allow yourself to wander down the path through the woods towards beautiful set of bays. Two headlands jut out into the sea like “almost islands” forming the shape of the bay which is bridged to the sandy beach. The surrounding area is surrounded by marshes, woodland and rocky outcrops. It’s a perfect place to spend the day exploring the headlands, or a sea swim during the summer months. Highly recommended for a relaxing day for a picnic. We recommend parking your car near the top of the crest of the road 1 km before the main parking place. It’s easily missed! park here! https://goo.gl/maps/B2UySJtAb5K3QKHE7

Just after Ullapool to the north, Rhue lighthouse faces the Summer Isles and is a wonderful place to go at sunset. Sea air and spectacular mountains surround you and make time stand still.

As my friend said “this has got to be one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had”. Strangely enough, that’s what I said too the first time I went. The fish is so fresh you can taste the pristine sea of the local waters. Perfect meal for a sunny day and stroll along the sea front, or simply sit by the port and enjoy the tranquility of Ullapool.

Dundonnell Hotel is our nearest place where we can enjoy a drink or a meal after exploring or hiking nearby An Teallach, Ardessie Falls or Sail Mhor. Situated on the NC500 route, it offers a great view up Little Loch Broom. The local staff are great and so is a well earned refreshment! Open during high season only.

If you want fantastic fresh seafood and fish for lunch or early supper in a beautiful location and a spectacular drive to get there, this doesn't get any better. Their menu is simple, but they catch their own fish with their boat in the bay. The staff are really friendly and the outside views reflect the setting. Please note that this is quite a distance to get to, seasonal opening times only and booking is a must. Highly recommended.
