Temple Square is a historic place for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have big visitor centers and have plenty of guides who can take you on tours. Around Christmas time, there are lots of Christmas lights on all of the trees which makes Temple Square a MUST see.

The easiest way to get around is having your own car
If you don't have your own car, there are ubers, and a train that goes up and down the Wasatch Front called Frontrunner. There are also plenty of buses in the Salt Lake City area if you are visiting downtown Salt Lake City.
