It's iconic Portland. I don't think they make the very best donuts in town, for that I'd say Blue Star, but where else are you going to get a voodoo doll donut impaled with a pretzel and filled with raspberry jam?

The food and drinks are fabulous, It's in a great old industrial building and puts you within walking distance of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and Cargo, an eclectic shop in another industrial building. Also nearby is Lipman's party supply which can be a real hoot!

Dams are cool! Plus there's a fish farming operation going on there and you can see Sturgeon and other types of fish under the water level.

One of the largest remaining privately owned bookstores in America. Powell's is very interesting with great merchandise other than books and has all sorts of nooks and crannies, including a cafe where you can peruse your new books.

It doesn't take very long to get there and you can explore the boisterous Clackamas river, or go upstream a bit past the fish ladder and find a quiet spot. It's a lovely country drive to get there.

It has the Zoo, Forestry Center, Arboretum, and great hiking trails, including a surprise stand of redwoods. This is a huge urban park that takes you out of the city almost immediately. You can take the light rail to get there. Down the hill from the light rail station is also the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden. Roses tend to be at their best here in June.

You can take the light rail to get there. Down the hill from the light rail station is also the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden. Roses tend to be at their best here in June.
