Food scene

For adults and children alike, this is our favourite treat place in LA! The ice cream at Salt & Straw is the best in the world, without exaggeration. Unique combination of flavours made with local ingredients. Ask for tasters, you'll be forever changed!

Best place for breakfast hands down. With the added bonus that it's only 2 blocks away from our home. The breads and pastries are to die for and everything on the lunch menu is outstanding. They also serve lunch and dinner. Of note, much of their produce is organic and locally grown. Tip: grab a number ticket the moment you get in - lines can be long. If you're just getting a coffee and pastry, no ticket needed, just stand at the first counter:-)

Wonderful new steak restaurant on Rose Avenue, minutes walk away from our home. Relaxing and unpretentious ambiance, decorated with the 70s in mind, Bruce Horowitz, the owner has managed to open yet another excellent eatery in the neighbourhood. As well as quality cuts of meat from sustainable farms, he offers excellent fish and the desserts are off the charts!

If you're a sushi lover, Nobu is it! The fish is the freshest around and the ambience is classy and fun. Try and get a table outside and watch the sunset over the Pacific. The perfect place to end the day after a long walk on the beach.

We love this chef-driven, poke restaurant on Abbot Kinney, not only because their bowls are so tasty and fairly priced, but because the fish is sustainably caught and many ingredients are organic and thoughtfully sourced. Great for a quick lunch or take out.

From the spectacular Venice and Santa Monica beaches to the eccentric local characters performing on the Boardwalk and Santa Monica Pier, this neighborhood offers everything for all ages. You'll be mesmerised by the skateboarders' tricks and awed by the glorious sunsets. Venice Ale House is one of our favourites in Venice as it offers great views, organic burgers and excellent beer and Urth Cafe on Main Street has a fun vibe for breakfast or lunch.

Once a wasteland, Downtown LA art's district has become a beautiful, burgeoning hub for artists and a great foodie scene. Between Second Street to Seventh Street and Alameda Street and the L.A. River, this is a great walking area with many excellent art galleries, shops, restaurants and cafes. Check out our favourite restaurants, Guerilla Tacos and Bestia (reservations essential). Sprinkled amidst these perimeters are the makings of a community rich in character, featuring stylish galleries, handsome coffee shops, socially conscious boutiques and some of the best restaurants and bars. These pockets of budding establishments lie amidst a stretch of early 20th-century warehouses—many ex-factories—converted into swanky lofts and creative spaces. Get the lowdown on the Downtown Arts District’s best places to eat, drink, shop and explore.

The ultimate hike - Tuna Canyon, Topanga. Easy to medium hike for all the family. Once you get to the "maze" you'll have the most magnificent view of Los Angeles and Malibu -above the clouds. If you're lucky, you might see an eagle or two! Absolutely awesome.

Spa

Beautiful, relaxing space to truly unwind. You'll feel like you've been transported to Marrakesh. The SPA menu is fantastic and I love the hot mint tea and fruit after an amazing massage. Two minute walk from our home.

LA weather, getting around and safety

- Pack for summer, but bring something warm as it gets chilly at night. - Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen essential when out and about and of course, comfortable walking shoes! - Our area is easy to explore by foot, but you still may want to have the Uber, Lyft or Bird app to hand, just in case. - Keep a close eye on your belongings in bars and restaurants - never leave bags on the back of chairs.
