Food scene

Probably the most stylish spot in the Seefeld neighborhood, and an expense-account favorite. Very good Italian in the hip setting of a converted historic cinema. Must-see.

Quick and easy, offering up pan-Asian fare focusing on Chinese, Thai, and Indian. Even if it seems a bit fast-foody, the food quality is surprisingly good, it's quick, inexpensive, and uncomplicated. Popular sidewalk terrace with large shared tables in nice weather.

One of the city's most popular Japanese spots, featuring a running sushi bar serving up eclectic sushi. It's expensive, but there's a reason it's always full -- it's very good. There is also a small dining room at the back featuring traditional tables and cooked Japanese fare, including delightful tempura dishes. Sidewalk café in the summer.

Tyler Brûlé's Zurich outpost is a popular spot featuring a curious mix of Mummies-with-Pushchairs and digerati talking up their latest programmatic concepts. The coffee and baked goods are top, and the place is ideal to stop by after an early-morning run or lake-swim. Anyone who reads Monocle knows that Zurich is basically Tyler's favorite city in the world -- he lives down the road, so you'll often catch him hanging out and chatting with guests.

You might not expect to see this one on this list, but if you are handy in the kitchen then head to Globus for the very best meat, fish, and other fresh ingredients to prepare at home. It's expensive, but you can't beat the quality. There is also an extensive wine shop, with a house sommelier featuring everything from top Magnums to off-the-beaten-track pours that are ideal as a house wine to drink over a few days.

A Zurich institution which is a pleasant 20-minute stroll down the lake from the apartment. Especially in the summer, the vibe on the patio is chilled, and nouvelle-comfort fare satisfying. Try the schnitzel, but if you do, go hungry!

Probably Seefelder's favorite restaurant, this tiny, quirky bolt-hole offers up pizza, pasta and other comfort-food in a cosy ambiance. My recommendation, however, is the cordon bleu, which is simply the best I've had anywhere. There are only about 40 seats inside (and a 3 shared tables on the sidewalk outside in the summer), so plan ahead and book a few days in advance. Closed on Saturdays (I know...)
