San Felipe fort is an important part of Bacalar's history; it was built to defend the town against pirates.
Inside there is an interesting museum with the history of Bacalar, and amazing views of the lagoon from the exterior walls.

These are some of the nearby ruins, and hardly visited by tourists, which means no queues and low prices
Worth the visit! Tip: get a local guide to explain the history, it's worth the money and you support the local economy :D

One of the best restaurants in Bacalar, everything is cooked on an open fire, sourced locally and beautifully presented
This place is a little more expensive than other restaurants but definitely worth it! Plus the garden is pretty and they often have live music
