Gastronomia

We are great foodies in this house! we know most of the good places in the city
This is by far one of the best restaurants in the area. It's a hidden gem, full of locals. Mostly local food, some tapas as well. The service is also amazing. If you plan to go on a weekend, you must book in advance.

This is a great Catalan food restaurant, incredible price for value. If you enjoy trying some very local gastronomy, try this one. Try the snails, I'm a huge fan. Anna hates them.

Here you can have the authentic Café de París sauce with your meet. You should order a steak with your choice of sauce, and chickpeas as a starter. I know it sounds like too much, just trust me. Have a nice bottle of Catalan red wine with it.

This is a traditional Korean and Japanese food restaurant. You won't find sushi here though. Also the place is in a very nice cozy street.

This is one of the most famous restaurants in Barcelona, usually pretty packed with tourists, but its worth it. You can have tapas, fish, meat... and drink whatever you want. Service is superb, very Spanish environment. Book in advance if you want a table, otherwise wait in line and you can get a spot pretty quickly

This is one of my personal favourite. I'll say the bad things first: its number one on TripAdvisor, always packed, no advanced bookings (go with time), tiny space and you can't sit. Having said this, it's the winner of many tapas prizes. A Catalan tavern with great wine. Have the Salmon with truffle honey, and make sure to try the "carquiñolis" for desert.

This is an exquisite mix of mediterranean food and asian food. Its definitively not cheap, but if you are a real food geek you cannot miss this one. Also great for dates or business meetings. You literally sit beside the cooks, in a large table together with the rest of the customers. The environment is great, and the food is superb. Try the oyster (they have a few kinds), drink sake.

This is one of the places in the city where vermouth is the general drink instead of beer or wine. This is an upcoming trend in Barcelona. Foodwise, you can have all of your traditional local (catalan) tapas. Its in the middle of Gracia, one of the liveliest districts in the city

I usually go here for a good cocktail with a couple of friends. It may not seam like it, but its open until 2am and there's always a free billiard to play a nice game. Archy, the bar tender, is a Cuban who speaks better Catalan than I do, fantastic guy. I actually have a book which tells his story and has most of his recipes.

Barris

This is one of the oldest squares in the area. This use to be a small town before the XIX century expansion of the city. My family comes from here, most of them still live in those houses, we have lived there for 5 generations. Today is a nice small square, very familiar and lively. Nice terraces to have a drink, breakfast or eat.

Albert studied Architecture for a year, and Anna is an interior designer. We both admire this place. In 1929, Barcelona held the Universal Expo, and Germany appointed Mies Van Der Roe to build their pavilion. The pavilion was torn down after the expo finished, but many people in the industry kept remembering how pure and perfect that pavilion represented Mies' style. In the 80's, the government of Barcelona got blueprints and put it back up.

It's a great walk to get up to this castle. It's a very important piece of history for Catalunya. The Borbonic Spanish kings put it up in the XVIII century after invading Catalunya. By that time, the Spanish exercised a terrible repression against Catalan people who either suffered or left in exile - one of the big exiles at the time. This castle was put up to bomb the city in case the Catalans rebelled. During the Spanish civil war, fascists killed Catalan Republicans here. Francesc Macià, the president of Catalunya was shot to death here. It is a symbol of Catalan dignity.

This is where Albert goes training. It's one of the best sports clubs in the city, and a small hidden gem from everyone. There are hardly no turists, and a day ticket is like €15. Its great if you want to go work from there, eat and practice some sports in front of the beach.

Really cool and great place to go running, see the city from up high, or just go for a walk. We usually go there on weekends for cycling or running. Rent a scooter bike and go check it out.
