The USS North Carolina is a neat museum to visit because it allows people to explore a real military ship that has been decommissioned. It's also a good option because it works for families with kids age 4 and up, but it's also fun for couples or solo travelers. In addition, the ticket is relatively inexpensive. I believe I paid $10 for mine.

Family friendly, educational, and fun! Plus if you visit the aquarium you get three adventures in one since the aquarium is connected to the fort fisher historic nature walk, and a beach to play.

CB State Park is beautiful and has plenty of trails to play on. It also has a welcome center with a science education component. This park grants you access to the sound side of the ecosystem, which is gorgeous to walk next to. Dogs are welcome.

Love this place for bouldering and top roping. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the gym is big enough to not feel crowded.

The park also has playgrounds and seating areas throughout, and there are a ton of covered pavilions that extend out into the lake for upclose looks at wildlife. There are also plenty of places to throw out a blanket to enjoy the sunshine.
