Food scene

Alavita describes itself as “an Italian joint.” And since we are always looking for delicious Italian food, this is one of our favorite spots. The vibe of the restaurant is cool and relatively intimate – it’s not a particularly large space, has a great bar in the middle of the action, and has lots of interesting chandeliers to look at, in addition to their fantastic food. Reservations highly recommended; open seating at the bar.

Fork is owned by the same people who own Alavita, so it would follow that we love this place too. It has a slightly more casual vibe, with a menu that is more American-eclectic in its styling. The venue is a converted bank, so again is interesting to look at. Reservations recommended here too; open seating at the bar.

The Saint Lawrence Gridiron is a place we have frequented a lot recently. They offer outdoor seating and open seating at the bar. It’s a no-fluff kind of place with tremendous cocktails and some amazing food. We recommend the shrimp and grits with an egg on it!

Goldy’s is our go-too sport for one of the greatest breakfasts in America (that is a bold statement from people who love breakfast!) We can’t seem to get enough of their breakfast burrito and their stuffed French toast. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared for a wait (at their coffee bar down the street), but you won’t regret the choice to eat here.

The Stagecoach Inn is a Boise institution. It is located in Garden City, just outside of downtown, and is known for their prawns and steaks. The space is dimly lit, cozy, and has a staff that has worked there forever (in the best of ways). Get there early so you don’t have to wait.

Whole Foods – River Room is, at first glance, a strange recommendation for a place to grab a bite, but its’ healthy, delicious, casual and fun vibe makes us regulars at this place. We especially like their “Buck a Shuck” Happy Hour on Friday nights from 5 – 7 p.m., where they serve up incredible oysters for only $1 each. Oh, and you can drink wine from a can. Who doesn’t love that?!
