Food Scene
There are many fine restaurants within a mile's walking distance of our suite, most of them on South Lamar and Barton Springs Road. Below are our favorite local (and affordable!) places.
An Austin tradition for breakfast and the best pancakes in town, but they also have an excellent lunch and dinner menu as well including vegan and gluten-free selections. Reasonable prices and open 24 hours! Get there early on weekends if you don't like to wait.

A real Texas Country music dancehall not to be missed. Thursday nights are especially recommended. If you're not a Texas two-stepper there are dance lessons at 8pm before the band goes on around 9pm.

Go down the hill and take a right on Barton Hills Drive and then take the trail to the left after passing the market and apartments. It's great for serious swimmers (it's 1/8 mile long) , floaters, and sunbathers as well. There's also a large partially tree-shaded lawn. Open 5am - 10pm daily except Thursdays (7-10pm). There is a small admission fee you can pay with a credit card. or go for FREE 5-8am & 9-10pm.

Great little convenience store with good wine and beer selection plus a small deli. Half mile from the house on the way to Barton Springs.
