The Ristoro l’Antica Scuderia restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy traditional Tuscan food with a creative touch. Its setting is also incredibly beautiful: a white road through the hills, the Abbey of Passignano, dark green cypresses, the shade of its garden. In ancient times it was a place for riders to stop and rest their horses before setting off once more on their journey. Today, after careful restoration, Maria and Stefano’s restaurant is where the old stables used to be, a suggestive and sophisticated place to eat, not far from Florence, in the heart of Chianti.

Was born in October 1984 with the idea of bringing the flavors of the sea into the Chianti hills. Located in Bargino, a small town in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, halfway between Florence and Siena. A particular idea that has worked since the first day making the Trattoria a certain fame.

Is renowed for its cured meats , cheeses and preserves in oil . Not to mention its quick service of pasta dishes and traditional Tuscan main courses. Particularly famous for its historical giant snacks consisting of the finest local cured meats and cheeses, among other ingredients, Bar dell'Orso is a typical country trattoria serving up typical Tuscan style and dishes: simple, genuine, plentiful. The menu features soups and pasta dishes, with all the pasta handmade on the premises, such as the famous “pappardelle” and polenta with wild boar ragout, ravioli with truffle, “tagliatelle”, “pici” and “ribollita” soup. Main courses of game, mixed meat grill, ossobuco and the finest quality meat complete the menu, along with desserts and specialities.

Are open only for breakfast and lunch. Il Ceppo is right on the Cassia road, between Monteriggioni and Siena. This gives the advantage of being surrounded by an incredible nature, like the Sienese Montagnola and Pian del Lago. For thir reason, it's also the ideal place for leaving to mountain bike trips or horseback riding tours. Breakfasts are truly unforgettable (it’s quite easy to find a local friend eating croutons with lardo and beans at 10 a.m. with a glass of red wine!) and at lunch they offer many local fantastic dishes: bruschette, croutons of any kind, cured meat, cheese and varous vegetables, so that you can use all of your gastronomical fantasy to prepare panini of any measure and type. Sometimes they prepare light stuff, like mozzarella and tomatoes or panzanella salad ( traditional Tuscan salad with bread!), cold farro soup; sometimes (actually very often!) they prepare the best dishes of our tradition: pappardelle with wildboar or wildrabbit sauce, pici with mushrooms or truffle, various soups and risotti, i pici all’aglione, trippa, ossobuco, ribollita, pappa al pomodoro, peposo.

Rests atop a narrow chalky hill where the Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana meet. This beautiful medieval village can be found in what seems like a postcard-perfect landscape, your mind conjuring up the classic idea of the Tuscan countryside no matter which direction you look in, with the green waves of the hills and golden fields dotted with cypress trees. The best way to discover the elegant historic center atop the hill is on foot: as you walk along, you’ll come across mighty Renaissance palaces before reaching – at the highest point of Montepulciano – the main piazza. Piazza Grande is dominated by the beautiful tower and the Gothic-façade of the Palazzo Comunale. Opposite the town hall is the Cathedral, dating to the end of the 1500s. But despite its indisputable beauty, Montepulciano is best known internationally for its Vino Nobile, considered one of the top Tuscan wines in the world, made with grapes coming from vineyards surrounding the village. Returning to the town: just under the medieval walls, you can admire the beautiful temple of the Madonna di San Biagio. The travertine used to construct the building at the beginning of the 16th century can be seen far off amongst the greenery of the countryside, offering the best welcome for anyone who decides to spend an afternoon strolling through these streets.

Quintessential image of Tuscany that it’s part of UNESCO World Heritage site list. Hills and ravines comprise the countryside, but it’s the cypress trees that steal the scene, surrounding isolated hilltop hamlet and marking roads in tidy rows. The river that gave its name to the valley is little more than a brook, which dries up for most of the year due to the summer heat but returns with force with the autumn rain. Oak forests, olive groves and vineyards that produce Brunello and other fine Tuscan wines extend across the hillsides, next to characterful monuments and villages. Italy’s oldest extinct volcano in Italy, Monte Amiata, hems in the landscape to the west. Tracing the curvature of the hills, start exploring from on high, at Radicofani Fortress, boasting views across the valley. Next, head for romantic Pienza, the ideal city and the setting of Zeffirelli’s film “Romeo and Juliet”. Delve into the cypresses of San Quirico, skirting Castiglione and continuing to Montalcino to sip a fine Brunello. With your senses fully awakened, a visit to San Giovanni d’Asso’s Truffle Museum is a must.To unwind after all your travelling, stop in Bagno Vignoni, famous for its striking thermal water baths in the town square, and Bagni San Filippo, where water rises from the heart of the volcano, gushing forth and creating concretions of rare beauty, a source of health and wellness for millennia.

In the collective imagination, Tuscany is seen as hectares of hilly countryside, gentle hills dotted with wheat, cypress and olive trees. Of course, there's much more to Tuscany than this, but there is a place where this perfect image of Tuscany is a fact: the Crete Senesi, or Sienese Crete. The area of the Crete Senesi is situated south of Siena, corresponding to the municipalities of Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme and San Giovanni d'Asso. The literal meaning of “Crete Senesi” is Sienese clays. They are, in fact, very distinctive of this area and resemble a lunar landscape. The Crete Senesi are mainly made by “mattaione”, a sediment of marine origin with a high mineral content. All around, human presence is limited: the sound of nature prevails over the handful of buildings, such as old brick farmhouses. You won't find any squares, castles or cathedrals here. During the summer, a gentle wind shakes the golden wheat, giving the sensation of Heaven on Earth! Nearby there is another peculiar landscape known as the Accona Desert (deserto di Accona in Italian). It is a semi-arid area located in the west and south part of the Asciano municipality. The semi aridity is due to the low rainfall, which is less than 600mm yearly and, as a consequence, the vegetation is scarce. The area is characterized by calanques and dome-shaped formations known locally as “biancane”, where the name derives from the Italian “bianco” (white) due to their light hue. The area has been known since the Middle Ages, as testified by the frescoes of Buon Governo di Siena depicting the Accona Desert. If you're looking for an observation point over the Crete Senesi, head for the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, founded at the beginning of the 1400s by Bernardo Tolomei. The Abbey’s structure reflects classic influences and has many of the characteristics of a typical Benedictine complex, including a large church and two cloisters. The Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore also hosts a main classroom, a refectory and a large library. Inside, you find an important collection of paintings, statues and inlaid works.
