You can always ask one of the many people enjoying the park on a daily where a good place is to catch dinner, live music or art. I think it is a great place to get a feel for the city and possible meet some locals.

Getting Around
This is the best way to go into the city if you are unfamiliar and especially during rush hours and for big events in the city. This is the end of the line. Train only goes south into the city where you can connect to another north bound train-NW and also the east west line. There is a bus that comes 1 block from the house it usually about a 20 min ride from the station.
