Jumping off point for hikes up the nearby mountains facing Mt. Monadnock. The center has trail maps and hosts other activities. These trails are generally easier for families with young children. Mt. Skakutakee has blueberries at the top in July.

These activities are within 2 miles of Spruce House.
Mt. Monadnock is one of the most climbed mountains in the US, and the best trail up is a short walk from Spruce House down Lake Road. It's about 0.75 miles away. You can park by the side of the road or walk down Lake Road to start your hike. It's about 4hrs round-trip for most hikers, but there is a false summit with commanding views about 1hr into the hike where you can turn around.
