South Ken is bursting with amazing museums. The V&A is hard to beat (for grown ups). It's free to get in and on a sunny day there are few nicer places to eat than in its central courtyard. It's a 40 minute walk over Albert Bridge and through South Ken (or a 15 minute bus ride - 49 or 345).

The most beautiful brige in London - especially at night. Walk over it many times. See it from Battersea Bridge and walk along the river between the two bridges.

River boats are a great way to get in and out of central London and the closest stop is at the far end of Battersea Park, near the power station. (You can also travel upstream to Wandsworth and beyond). The boats cost a bit more than the train and it's not as fast, but they have cafes on board and you get to see the city from the river. To get to the Battersea Power Station pier walk through the park and take the footpath underneath Chelsea Bridge. You can

Food scene

Quirky twists on delicious food. Ask if you can see the cellars. The restaurant is built over a series of old ice stores deep underground. Before the advent of modern refrigeration, barges would sail up The Thames and off load ice from Scandanavia into the cellars. Then it would be sold to restaurants and food wholesalers in London. The place is owned by three brothers who source some of the ingredients from their parents farm. They also own the Rabbit restaurant on the King's Road. One of the brothers, Richard Gladwin, was arrested there in 2015 for getting very drunk and waving his shotgun around. (maybe don't mention that if you want to see the cellars). https://www.nutbourne-restaurant.com/ https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/chelsea-diner-boss-arrested-after-man-pointed-shotgun-at-taxi-in-kings-road-a2954622.html

This is our favourite local Italian and I've been coming here for 20 years. I always have the calves liver and zabaglione. I'm sure the rest of the menu is great as well. https://antipastolondon.co.uk/food

Shopping

Great shopping. The King's Road used to be part of London's bohemian artist scene. These days it is mostly designer boutiques and good restaurants. Walk over Battersea or Albert Bridges for some of the best river views in London.

Nights out

For the music! This is one of London's real hidden gems. It is a French gypsy jazz bar with live music every night. Go for the music and the atmosphere. The food is ok, and the service can be surly, but a slightly charming way. Always worth it.

Fringe theatre on your doorstep. 503 is a really intimate space (capacity is probably 60 people max). And once you've seen the show the Latchmere Pub downstairs is great. (I worked behind the bar there when I left school - it has got a lot smarter since then).

I recently rediscovered this real gem of a local, with its regulars sat at the bar. The best atmosphere is at the front, around the bar.

Neighbourhoods

Vibrant and historic borough, bursting with great walks, pubs and restaurants. Walk through Battersea Park, along the river, to see the iconic power station or Albert Bridge. Stop for a pint in the Prince Albert or treat yourself to a meal in the Nutbourne, in a converted wharf. (Ask the waiters nicely and they might take you into the cavernous basements that used to keep London's ice, when it came in boats from Scandanavia in the days before refrigeration).

Don't forget the river boats

London was born as a port & the river is part of its soul. You can get in and out of town on the river boats from Battersea Power Station Pier. A great way to travel and a great way to see the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, HMS Trafalgar and the Shard etc.
