BREAKFAST: Cova is one one the oldest 'classic' pastry & coffee shops in Milan, the original (next to La Scala) was founded in 1817! We are lucky enough to have our very own branch 2 mins away! Delicious cakes and semifreddi served in an antique-style salon.

The best gelato shop I have discovered in Milan - and luckily it's right on our doorstep! Why? Because all the produce is made fresh by hand on the premises and from natural ingredients. The South American proprietress creates magic flavours and combinations from seasonal exotic fruit. Delicious and the portions are amazing value for money! Nothing mass-produced, nothing fake.

Sightseeing

Unmissable, iconic, spectacular. Even if you aren't religious, the powerful impact of this architectural masterpiece is undeniable and must be experienced first-hand to appreciate fully. Highlights include the roof-top walk (offering amazing views across Milan and close-up inspection of the highly detailed stonework), the creepy crypt with ancient Roman foundations and the elaborate (and enormous) bronze doors contrasting against the light marble facing. Six hundred years in the making, it was well worth the wait as it has become beyond doubt the focal point of the city of Milan.

Unmissable place in Milan. Historic castle home of the Sforza family, and one-tme work place of Leonardo da Vinci. Apart from the impressive building itself, there are various museums housed within the castle walls. Plenty to see and worth several visits. Also, surrounded by the Sempione Park. Easily accessible using public transport.

Parks & Nature

GREEN SPACE: An important green space in the heart of Milan, this park provides a wonderful place to breathe, relax and contemplate the rich history and culture of Milan. Positioned as it is behind the Castelo Sforzesco, you cannot help but wonder if you are treading the same paths that Leonardo da Vinci himself might have trod 500 years ago... Great for strolling, picnics, exercising and of course visiting the castle.

CANAL WALK/CYCLE: Peace and quiet along the beautiful Martesana Canal - conceived by Leonardo da Vinci. Abundant wildlife, you can enjoy this safe, flat trail for many kilometres into the countryside of Milan by foot or bike before returning to 'town' by metro as the green line (M2) follows the route of the canal quite closely! Beautiful villages can be reached easily.

Arts & Culture

MUSEUM/ART: A magnificent private family collection of precious objects antique books, antique armoury, paintings, furniture and applied arts, housed in a spectacular palazzo building on one of Milan's most up-market streets. Each room is themed around a particular 'style', so you have an early renaissance room, a 14th century room, a neo-Baroque area etc. It is a real treasure trove and is surprisingly quiet considering the central, touristy location.

Sure, taking the tram is slower than the metro, but, being above ground you can see the streets and fantastic architecture of Milan and get a better understanding of your surroundings. This particular line still uses the really old carriages which have a predominant wooden structure and are very romantic / nostalgic. The route of the No.1 takes you along some very touristy streets and past such iconic scenes as Castelo Sforzesco, Parco Sempione, Via Manzoni and La Scala.

TRAINS/COACHES: Apart from the fact that the station building is in itself a awesome sight to see (think HUGE, imposing architecture), this is the major gateway to visit the rest of Italy and beyond by rail. High-speed inter-city trains can carry you to Turn, Venice, Rome, Genoa, the lakes etc. within a couple of hours. For those on a budget there are also slower regional and local trains.
