Eating and drinking out

Because this is a small village and most places are run by the owners, not everything is open all the time. Please see opening times/ days on each recommendation.
Fabulous food and gorgeous decor but laid back and comfortable. Lovely warming inside fire, patios on two sides for morning/ afternoon sun or shade depending on the season. Delicious homemade sourdough bread also available for purchase but get there early - it's in high demand! They are open: Friday - Monday 9 am-12 pm for breakfast, coffee shop and deli Contact Philip 083 675 0403. If you are here for a few days/weeks and would like to find out about the deli options on a daily basis (including the occasional delicious takeaway dinner) let Philip know and he will add you to the whatsapp group.

The Saturday Morning Market - A little village market where you can buy fresh eggs, bread, homemade rusks, local produce etc. The market starts at 9 am and it's worth getting there on time because it doesn't run for very long. Although Judy, who has the best eggs, lettuce, biscuits and other things only gets there around 9.20...

A true garagiste winery, a wine tasting at Bemind is a must do!

The best carrot cake and delicious coffee! They also serve toasties on home-baked bread, baked sweet things and milkshakes. They have a shop attached which sells curios and some clothing. Post lockdown they are open 9 am to 3.30 pm Monday - Saturday.

A new addition to the village that somehow feels like its always been here is a music venue and bar called At The Courtyard and it's sister; The Time Out Cafe . As the name suggests the venue is located in a beautiful central courtyard with seating for around 100 people both in the open air and undercover. The intimate shows they put on have captured the hearts of villagers and visitors alike. With artists like Guy Buttery, Robin Auld, Basson Laubscher, PJ Powers and Arno Carstens, they have grown from strength to strength in a very short space of time. I would highly recommend going to a show while you are here or popping in for a jam session or some of Meg's simple, delicious and wholesome food. They are open: Wednesday - Sunday 9am - bedtime for Cafe and Bar Saturday evening - live music event 6/7pm till bedtime. Contact Meg on 082 445 2145 or check out their Instagram or Facebook pages for info about upcoming events. @at_the_courtyard @at_the_timeout_cafe

So, we have never actually been winetasting at Lords - it seems to be one of those things you don't find the time for in your own home town. But I have heard good things from people who have, apparently their bubbly is particularly nice. If you do go, please let me know! The Fat Lady's arms which used to be a local restaurant who are now doing frozen pizza bases (which you can buy from MNM) are also doing food at Lords from 11 am till 4 pm, Wednesday - Sunday.

If you are looking for somewhere to watch sports, this is place to go. I have not eaten there since it was under new management so I can't recommend the food.

Sightseeing

The garden at temenos is quite extraordinary and very beautiful. They also have a restaurant called Tebaldi's which can be a bit hit and miss, you may go there for dinner and have an absolutely delicious meal, you may also go there for dinner and have a not so great meal.

Food scene

At Made in McGregor you'll find all sorts of locally grown and produced goodies as well as a few other health food essentials. I have had mixed experiences from the things I have bought there, sometimes they're fantastic and others they aren't so great but they are still worth a visit because no doubt you will find something you love. (Just make sure you check the best before dates before you buy...) Also they are the only place to get fresh produce in the village aside from the market on a Saturday. They are open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm
