Coffee Shops

It's hip, homey, in the heart of Wallingford - and has some of Seattle's best chocolate! Their fresh cream truffles are so good, they're often sold out despite looking pretty inconspicuous and being tucked away from the fancy rest. Just the best! Let the folks there know if you're a first-time visitors and get treated to a free truffle. It's a prime spot for people watching, too. Just settle down in one of their cozy nooks facing the street and watch life go by. 45th Street is always busy.

It's just two blocks up the street and has delectable fare. Their pies are fantastic!! But they have good savory bites as well. (Pizza, Sandwiches, Salads...) They also have outdoor seating. It's especially nice on a sunny day in the AM hours.

Mouthwatering brunch/lunch fare and high quality baked goods, mostly organic, and locally sourced. It's a block away from Gasworks Park. They close rather early, at 5pm. So, if you want to enjoy a tasty sammy and the atmosphere (the place is packed around lunch time, but feels bright and airy) get there no later than 3pm. If you prefer a quiet cup of joe in the sun - there is outdoor seating that's ok to use after the've closed the doors for the day, too.

They have an extensive and very tasty menu including salads, sandwiches, burritos, waffles (all day!), and a variety of hot and cold beverages, including local draft ciders and kombucha. Their ginger turmeric tea is sunshine in a cup to me. Their kale quesadilla... Hmmmm! This is a great spot to check out local artists. Open mic nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Thursdays the place is usually bursting by the seams. Tuesdays tend to be relatively low key. They usually have music every night except Sundays.

If you like funk, be sure to visit Sea Monster! It's all about the music here. What you see and hear is truly unique. Artists come together and share the stage, doing improv and live recording, to get their creations aired in a thrifty way. The talent is incredible, the venue small and unpretentious with a bar - and room to dance! ($10 cover charge)

Sightseeing

If you're headed for Woodland Park and/or Green Lake and, consider weaving in a stroll through the Good Shepherd Center's pea patch. It's the Seattle Tilth Alliance's community learning garden in a nicely matured corner of the neighborhood. There is a park, complete with BBQ grills and play fields. I recommend walking straight up Sunnyside Ave, perhaps meander a block east or west along the way, for best curbside feel.
