In two of Borgarnes’s oldest buildings The Settlement Center is devoted to recreating Iceland’s earliest days and introduces visitors to one of the best known heroes of the Icelandic Sagas, Egil Skalla-Grimsson.It also houses a cozy licensed restaurant, a café and a souvenir shop. The Center consists of three buildings, the warehouse, the merchant house and the reception hall.

The Freezer in Rif is a professional theatre and artists residency founded by local actor and theater maker, Kári Viðarsson in the spring of 2010.
The Freezer is an independent theatre that produces one or two new Icelandic theatre shows each year. These shows are always inspired by stories and sagas from the local area as it is the theatre´s goal to rejuvenate these sometimes forgotten tales and make them come alive for a younger audience in an exciting and newfound way.
