Parks & Nature

The beautiful San Jose de la Montana is a gorgeous tiny mountain village and one of the most amazing places to visit in the entire country. Located on the slopes of the famous Barva Volcano in Heredia province, a few kilometers from the town of Barva, this village is a fabulous getaway to enjoy a completely different side of Costa Rica. Set amidst a tall evergreen forest, this village is reminiscent of a Swiss mountain town, with its beautiful 18th century wood homes and dramatic landscape. The air up here is crisp and clean, with a variety of restaurant and hotels to suit every budget. Perfect for on day trip.

The Calle de la Amargura ("Bitterness Street") is a four-block-long street located in San Pedro de Montes de Oca and is one of the best-known zones in San José, Costa Rica. La Calle, as it is often called, is very close to the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and other important higher education centers. La Calle consists of small stores, nightclubs, and bars, most of which are open every day. The area is mostly known for its extensive nightlife scene.
